Blazar spectral variability as explained by a twisted inhomogeneous jet [PDF]
© 2017 Macmillan Publishers Limited, part of Springer Nature. All rights reserved. Blazars are active galactic nuclei, which are powerful sources of radiation whose central engine is located in the core of the host galaxy. Blazar emission is dominated by

Variability is one of the characteristics of blazars. The rapid variability is superposed on the long term variation. In this work, the variability on different time scales, such as intra-day (IDV), short-term (STV) and long-term (LTV) variations are presented for some sources.

Optical variability of blazars
Astronomische Nachrichten, 2019The analysis of blazars' parameters from BZCAT leads to a conclusion that they do not have the same properties. The preliminary criterion to include an object in the catalog was the strong radio emission; however, two type of radio sources were selected: BL Lacertae (BLL) objects and Flat Spectrum Radio Quasars (FSRQ).

Variability of the extreme z = 4.72 blazar, GB 1428+4217
We report X-ray and radio variability of GB 1428+4217 which confirm its blazar nature. IR observations reveal a powerful optical-UV component, not obscured by dust, which is suggestive of the presence of a billion solar mass black hole, already formed by

Multiwavelength variability of blazars
Astronomische Nachrichten, 1999I discuss here multiwavelength variability of blazars concentrating on two prototypical objects: the highly polarized, superluminal quasar 3C 279 and the BL Lac object Mrk 421, one of the brightest sources in the soft X-ray and TeV energy bands. Their apparent diversities can be reconciled with a unification scheme for the whole blazar class.

Spectral variability of blazars
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2000Broadband spectral characteristics of different subclasses of γ-ray blazars in different γ-ray intensity states are contrasted and discussed in the framework of currently popular leptonic jet models. Differences between quasars and BL-Lacs may be understood in terms of the dominance of different radiation mechanisms in the gamma-ray regime.
