On Plane Blazed Gratings

IBM Journal of Research and Development, 1965
The Fraunhofer patterns of blazed gratings are derived on the basis of a scalar theory which includes the non-linear dependence of the obliquity factor and the phase modulation on the spatial frequencies defining the positions of the source and of the observer. The solution based on the usual 'linear communications' theory is compared with one based on

Perfect blazing for transmission gratings

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 1990
Using electromagnetic theory, we first establish that a triangular-groove dielectric grating can be optimized to concentrate all the transmitted energy into only one transmitted order. This is done by evaporating an infinitely thin layer of a perfectly conducting metal on the small facet of the grooves.

Formation of blazed holographic gratings

Applied Physics B Photophysics and Laser Chemistry, 1982
Various methods for the recording of blazed holographic diffraction gratings are presented and the regions in the wavelength-groove density plane for which they can be used are shown. The gratings are made in the positive photoresist Shipley AZ-1350. The diffraction efficiency for s and p polarization was measured as a function of wavelength and angle ...

In-Line Polarimeter Using Blazed Fiber Gratings

Optics and Photonics News, 2000
We fabricate highly blazed, polarization-sensitive fiber grating taps and show how these may be used in combination with a UV-induced fiber waveplate to form a compact, in-fiber polarimeter. We show how the polarimeter may be employed as a feedback element to control polarization and use the feedback loop to demonstrate the stable, broadband (>70 nm ...

Blazing of smooth gratings

Optics & Laser Technology, 1989
Abstract The diffraction efficiency of smooth weak gratings can depend significantly on the profile of the gratings as, in the diffraction process there exists wave coupling. By adjusting the grating profile it is possible to obtain enhancement or suppression of the diffraction efficiency. Possible applications include improvements in grating devices,

Variation of blaze of concave diffraction gratings

Applied Optics, 1981
The change in blaze wavelength as a function of position on a blazed concave diffraction grating surface is discussed. An experimental study of ruled and interferometric blazed concave gratings showed that the change in blaze across the grating surface is much less for an interferometric grating than for a ruled grating.

Blazed Ion-etched Holographic Gratings

Optica Acta: International Journal of Optics, 1976
An ion-etching technique has been successfully applied to the production of blazed holographic plane gratings having various blaze angles ranging from 7 to 26 degrees. Efficiencies of the gratings thus produced were measured in the Littrow configuration as functions of an ion-etching condition, wavelength, and angle of incidence. The maximum efficiency

High-efficiency blazed grating couplers

Applied Physics Letters, 1976
High-efficiency blazed grating couplers have been successfully realized by using an ion etching technique. We observed that a guided wave was radiated as the leaky wave which appears selectively either above or below the grating depending on the direction of the propagation of the guided wave.

Theory of Blazed Holographic Gratings

Journal of Modern Optics, 1989
Abstract Geometric theory of the blazed aberration-corrected holographic grating is derived. This involves generalising the holographic component of the light-path function to permit aberration correction for recording geometries that arrange the two recording wavefronts to be incident from opposite sides of the grating substrate, thereby realising ...

Blaze considerations for multilayer gratings

Optics Communications, 1993
Abstract The effect of changing effective blaze angle across a concave grating coated with an EUV reflecting multilayer is examined. It is concluded that conventionally ruled concave multilayer gratings can have a wide wavelength passband.
