Polarimetry with a soft x-ray spectrometer
An approach for measuring linear X-ray polarization over a broad-band using conventional spectroscopic optics is described. A set of multilayer-coated flats reflect the dispersed X-rays to the instrument detectors.

Reflective liquid crystal hybrid beam-steerer [PDF]
We report on efficient optical beam-steering using a hot-embossed reflective blazed grating in combination with liquid crystal. A numerical simulation of the electrical switching characteristics of the liquid crystal is performed and the results are used

Linker‐Free Covalent DNA Functionalization of Quantum‐Grade Nanodiamonds
Nanodiamond (ND) surface is terminated with azide groups via nucleophilic substitution and decarboxylative azidation. The resulting azidated NDs display high click reactivity while retaining the spin and charge properties of nitrogen‐vacancy centers.

Time-varying gradient metasurface with applications in all-optical beam steering
Integrating the large, subpicosecond nonlinear optical response of epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) materials with the broad design freedoms of plasmonic metasurfaces shows potential for creating rapidly modulated optical devices with possible applications in ...

A Grism Design Review and the as-built performance of the silicon grisms for JWST-NIRCAM
Grisms are dispersive transmission optics that find their most frequent use in instruments that combine imaging and spectroscopy. This application is particularly popular in the infrared where imagers frequently have a cold pupil in their optical path ...

Photoluminescence of Mechanochemically Manufactured Rare‐Earth Doped CsPbCl3 Microcrystals
The mechanochemical approach presented in this work allows for exceptional control over dopant incorporation, producing high‐quality powders suited to melt‐growth of single crystals. Through complementary structural characterization techniques (X‐ray diffraction, energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy, and X‐ray fluorescence), the nominal doping ...

Dual-interface gratings for broadband absorption enhancement in thin-film solar cells [PDF]
We numerically study complex dual-interface grating systems to enhance absorption efficiency in thin-film silicon solar cells. We combine a plasmonic grating at the back side of the solar cell with a dielectric grating at the front side of the cell.

Herein, the maximum violation of the three‐setting Clauser–Horne–Shimony–Holt (CHSH) inequality using nonmaximally entangled photons with orbital angular momentum is demonstrated. By mapping the optimization problem to maximizing a triangle's perimeter inscribed in an ellipse, the experiment validates the geometric approach and highlights the ...

High‐Speed, Continuous, Large‐Angle Nonmechanical Beam‐Steering with Liquid Crystal Etalons
Liquid crystal (LC) is a strong candidate material for nonmechanical beam‐steering devices. This study proposes a new approach using three components: a superluminescent diode (SLD), an LC etalon, and a grating. Broad‐spectrum light from the SLD is passed through the LC etalon, generating wavelength‐swept light.
