Dextran blends: Theory and experiment1

Biorheology, 1974
Viscosity data are presented for several dextran fractions and compared with similar data on three blends of these fractions. A computer simulation is then used to compare the expected behavior of these fractions during enzymatic degradation and renal elimination. The possible clinical application of this approach is noted.

Blending theory - in the classroom

2012 IEEE International Professional Communication Conference, 2012
In preparing college students for writing and composing for the world of various audiences beyond the class walls, it is important that they become familiar with meaning-making strategies beyond rhetorical patterns, such as ‘claim-reason-evidence,’ which although powerful, may ultimately rely on literalist assumptions of the nature of language.

Hierocles and the Stoic Theory of Blending

Phronesis, 2018
Abstract In Stoic physics, blending (κρᾶσις) is the relation between active pneuma and passive matter; natural bodies from rocks and logs to plants, animals and the cosmos itself are blends of pneuma and matter. Blending structures the Stoic cosmos. I develop a new interpretation of the Stoic theory of blending, based on passages from Hierocles.

Comments on the Doi-Ohta theory of blends

Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics, 1994
Abstract A more complete set of governing equations of the Doi-Ohta theory of blends of immiscible fluids is derived from the requirement of the compatibility of dynamics with thermodynamics.

Skaldic Blends Out of Joint: Blending Theory and Aesthetic Conventions

Metaphor and Symbol, 2012
This article is concerned with the theory of metaphor and its relation to aesthetics. The case-study is concerned with theory of metaphorical constraint, but is argued to have wider implications. It begins with a survey of the Greco-Roman tradition, which tends to confine metaphor to likeness.
