Skaldic Blends Out of Joint: Blending Theory and Aesthetic Conventions
Metaphor and Symbol, 2012This article is concerned with the theory of metaphor and its relation to aesthetics. The case-study is concerned with theory of metaphorical constraint, but is argued to have wider implications. It begins with a survey of the Greco-Roman tradition, which tends to confine metaphor to likeness.

Towards a molecular theory of polymer blends
Macromolecular Symposia, 1994AbstractThe importance of including specific monomer structures, local correlations, and “equation of state effects” into the statistical thermodynamics of polymer blends is accomplished by developing and applying the lattice cluster theory. This new theory provides systematic corrections to Flory‐Huggins theory from local correlations and describes ...

Blending Electromagnetic and Information Theory in Antenna Synthesis
2019 International Conference on Electromagnetics in Advanced Applications (ICEAA), 2019The aim of this paper is to introduce a synthesis approach that includes the control of both quantities of interested in electromagnetic theory, like the sidelobe level, and in information theory, like the channel capacity. An example regarding PSK MIMO communication system is shown to clarify the approach.

Integral Equation Theory of Polymer Blends
Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals Incorporating Nonlinear Optics, 1990An off-lattice microscopic statistical mechanical theory of the equilibrium properties of polymer mixtures is developed based on modern integral equation methods. A rigorous derivation of the RPA scattering function is presented along with a fully microscopic, exact formula for the effective chi-parameter measured in SANS experiments. Numerical results

Towards a Design Theory of Blended Learning Curriculum
2008The purpose of this article is to develop a design theory of blended learning curriculum in ways of establishing a model for designing such a curriculum and a model for designing an activity in a blended learning curriculum as well as demonstrating how these models can be utilized in a curriculum design.

Blending and folk theory in an explanation of irony
Review of Cognitive Linguistics, 2014This paper casts a critical glance at the traditional pragmatic view of irony as well as the most definitive theories of the 1980s and 1990s, and shows that most of these conceptions are incomplete: they have a limited sphere of explanatory sway, as attested by the occurrence of instances of ironic speech not conforming to these models.

Theory of Block Copolymer‐Homopolymer Blends
Berichte der Bunsengesellschaft für physikalische Chemie, 1985AbstractThe theory of phase separation and microdomain formation in block copolymer‐homopolymer blends is reviewed. The calculations involve the solution of modified mean field diffusion equations for the polymer distribution functions, which are used to construct a general free energy expression, taking into account the connectedness of the blocks of ...

This study introduces Blended-Self Theory, a novel cognitive-linguistic framework coined by the author to analyze how literary narratives construct character identity through the fusion of inner and outer worlds. The theory posits that a character’s thoughts, emotions, and bodily experiences are not isolated from their environment; rather, they ...

Horror Screenwriting: Blending Theory with Practice
2014Good ideas for horror screenplays originate from a range of sources. These inspirations could be personal, linked to the writer’s life experiences, or cultural, reflecting wider socio-political concerns. Great horror storytelling, I want to argue, can be achieved through the linking of a well-researched knowledge of horror histories, industries and ...
