De algemene therapeutische maatregelen bij blepharitis ulcerosa en squamosa bestaan uit het verwijderen van de korsten en het ontvetten van de lidrand. Dit kan worden uitgevoerd door poetsen met benzine en tetrachloorkoolstof. Daarnaast dienen de aanwezige staphylokokken te worden geelimineerd. Dit blijkt empirisch het beste te gaan met oxytetracycline
