The Voice-Recognition Accuracy of Blind Listeners

Perception, 1983
A research programme has been carried out that concerns the accuracy with which listeners can identify a speaker heard once before. The present study examined the voice-recognition abilities of blind listeners, and it was found that they could more accurately select target voices from the test arrays than could sighted people.

Distributed compression and the blind zone recognition

2016 International Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing Conference (IWCMC), 2016
Wireless sensor network (WSN) technology provides support infrastructure to solve blind zone coverage. Previous studies mainly focus on deployment and management of sensor nodes for enhancing signal coverage on a specific zone. But few of them are on coordinating several nodes to recognize blind zone.

Pictorial Recognition and Teaching the Blind To Draw

Insight, 1980
The author wished to discover how the blind mentally envisage three-dimensional form and if any connection existed between their conceptions and those of sighted persons. One question was if conventional orthographic presentations conveyed anything to the blind, or would three-dimensional representations be more meaningful?

Blind-Road Location and Recognition in Natural Scene

2009 WRI World Congress on Computer Science and Information Engineering, 2009
In this paper, we describe the dual-threshold processing technology based on gray histogram and carry on binary processing to the blind-road gray image according to the real-time requirement of blind man navigation system and the features of blind-road.

Blind recognition of retransmitted packets for HARQ system

2003 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking, 2003. WCNC 2003., 2004
A simple approach to blindly detect the status of incoming packets (new or retransmitted), in a type-II selective repeat HARQ scheme is presented. Performance results are given showing that the approach is not only able to recognize new from retransmitted packets but also to properly associate retransmitted ones to already stored ones in the receiver ...

Blind Recognition of Touched Keys on Mobile Devices

Proceedings of the 2014 ACM SIGSAC Conference on Computer and Communications Security, 2014
In this paper, we introduce a novel computer vision based attack that automatically discloses inputs on a touch-enabled device while the attacker cannot see any text or popup in a video of the victim tapping on the touch screen. We carefully analyze the shadow formation around the fingertip, apply the optical flow, deformable part-based model (DPM), k ...

Smartphone based face recognition tool for the blind

2010 Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology, 2010
The inability to identify people during group meetings is a disadvantage for blind people in many professional and educational situations. To explore the efficacy of face recognition using smartphones in these settings, we have prototyped and tested a face recognition tool for blind users.

VISUAL RECOGNITION For BLIND PEOPLE

International Journal on Science and Technology
The inability to perceive visual surroundings makes daily navigation and information access challenging for blind individuals. This paper presents a comprehensive system named Visual Recognition for Blind People, which integrates computer vision and artificial intelligence to provide real-time environmental understanding and assistance.

A Vocalized Color Recognition System for the Blind

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 1984
The design of low-cost, portable, vocalized color recogition system for the blind has been described in detail. The system in its minimum configuration, can recognize 24 colors with 100-percent accuracy using separate templates for the broad surface categories: full gloss, semigloss, and matt.

Optical Character Recognition—An Aid to Blind

IETE Journal of Education, 1982
The problem of pattern recognition consists of identifying an input figure or character, given that it belongs to a finite set of categories. This paper presents the constructional details and experimental results of an inexpensive'optical character recognition system’. The proposed method utilizes columnar sensing technique.
