Abstract Three experiments are described which use RSVP (rapid serial visual presentation) to demonstrate a new cognitive phenomenon called “repetition blindness”. Subjects have difficulty detecting repeated words—even when the two occurrences are nonconsecutive and differ in case (Experiment 1).
