Inclusive Block Chain Protocols

open access: yes, 2015
Distributed cryptographic protocols such as Bitcoin and Ethereum use a data structure known as the block chain to synchronize a global log of events between nodes in their network. Blocks, which are batches of updates to the log, reference the parent they are extending, and thus form the structure of a chain.

LC Block Copolymers Containing Side-Chain and Main-Chain Blocks

open access: yesMolecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals Science and Technology. Section A. Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals, 1995
Abstract The synthesis and some thermal properties of a new type of block copolymers comprising both main-chain and side-chain liquid-crystalline (LC) blocks in the same macromolecular structure are described. The former block is a semiflexible LC polyester (block A), and the latter is a LC polymethacrylate (block B).

Chaining Multiple-Alignment Blocks

Journal of Computational Biology, 1994
We derive a time-efficient method for building a multiple alignment consisting of a highest-scoring chain of "blocks," i.e., short gap-free alignments. Besides executing faster than a general-purpose multiple-alignment program, the method may be particularly appropriate when discovery of blocks meeting a certain criterion is the main reason for ...
