The Impact of Name-Matching and Blocking on Author Disambiguation [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 27th ACM International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management, 2018
In this work, we address the problem of blocking in the context of author name disambiguation. We describe a framework that formalizes different ways of name-matching to determine which names could potentially refer to the same author. We focus on name variations that follow from specifying a name with different completeness (i.e.

Social context prevents heat hormetic effects against mutagens during fish development

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows that sublethal heat stress protects fish embryos against ultraviolet radiation, a concept known as ‘hormesis’. However, chemical stress transmission between fish embryos negates this protective effect. By providing evidence for the mechanistic molecular basis of heat stress hormesis and interindividual stress communication, this study ...

miRNA‐29 regulates epidermal and mesenchymal functions in skin repair

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
miRNA‐29 inhibits cell‐to‐cell and cell‐to‐matrix adhesion by silencing mRNA targets. Adhesion is controlled by complex interactions between many types of molecules coded by mRNAs. This is crucial for keeping together the layers of the skin and for regenerating the skin after wounding.

AutoBlock: A Hands-off Blocking Framework for Entity Matching [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Entity matching seeks to identify data records over one or multiple data sources that refer to the same real-world entity. Virtually every entity matching task on large datasets requires blocking, a step that reduces the number of record pairs to be matched.

A cellular system to study responses to a collision between the transcription complex and a protein‐bound nick in the DNA template

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present the cellular transcription‐coupled Flp‐nick system allowing the introduction of a Top1‐mimicking cleavage complex (Flpcc) at a Flp recognition target site within a controllable LacZ gene. LacZ transcription leads to the collision of RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) with Flpcc, and this causes RNAPII stalling, ubiquitination, and degradation.

A Complexity and Quality Evaluation of Block Based Motion Estimation Algorithms

open access: yesActa Polytechnica, 2005
Motion estimation is a method, by which temporal redundancies are reduced, which is an important aspect of video compression algorithms. In this paper we present a comparison among some of the well-known block based motion estimation algorithms.

A Coarse-to-Fine Geometric Scale-Invariant Feature Transform for Large Size High Resolution Satellite Image Registration

open access: yesSensors, 2018
Large size high resolution (HR) satellite image matching is a challenging task due to local distortion, repetitive structures, intensity changes and low efficiency.

Block matching and Wiener filtering approach to optical turbulence mitigation and its application to simulated and real imagery with quantitative error analysis

open access: yes, 2017
. We present a block-matching and Wiener filtering approach to atmospheric turbulence mitigation for long-range imaging of extended scenes. We evaluate the proposed method, along with some benchmark methods, using simulated and real-image sequences.

Poisson noise removal from high-resolution STEM images based on periodic block matching

open access: yesAdvanced Structural and Chemical Imaging, 2015
Scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) provides sub-ångstrom, atomic resolution images of crystalline structures. However, in many applications, the ability to extract information such as atom positions, from such electron micrographs, is ...

Compressed Sensing of Block-Sparse Signals: Uncertainty Relations and Efficient Recovery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We consider compressed sensing of block-sparse signals, i.e., sparse signals that have nonzero coefficients occurring in clusters. An uncertainty relation for block-sparse signals is derived, based on a block-coherence measure, which we introduce. We then show that a block-version of the orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm recovers block $k$-sparse ...
