Breath Analysis in Disease Diagnosis: Methodological Considerations and Applications

open access: yesMetabolites, 2014
Breath analysis is a promising field with great potential for non-invasive diagnosis of a number of disease states. Analysis of the concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in breath with an acceptable accuracy are assessed by means of using ...

C9orf72 ALS‐causing mutations lead to mislocalization and aggregation of nucleoporin Nup107 into stress granules

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutations in the C9orf72 gene represent the most common genetic cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a fatal neurodegenerative disease. Using patient‐derived neurons and C. elegans models, we find that the nucleoporin Nup107 is dysregulated in C9orf72‐associated ALS. Conversely, reducing Nup107 levels mitigates disease‐related changes.

Kadanoff-Baym equations and non-Markovian Boltzmann equation in generalized T-matrix approximation

open access: yes, 2001
A recently developed method for incorporating initial binary correlations into the Kadanoff-Baym equations (KBE) is used to derive a generalized T-matrix approximation for the self-energies.

Imeglimin attenuates liver fibrosis by inhibiting vesicular ATP release from hepatic stellate cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Imeglimin, at clinically relevant concentrations, inhibits vesicular ATP accumulation and release from hepatic stellate cells, thereby attenuating purinergic signaling and reducing fibrogenic activation. This mechanism reveals a newly identified antifibrotic action of imeglimin beyond glycemic control.

60 GHz Blockage Study Using Phased Arrays

open access: yes, 2017
The millimeter wave (mmWave) frequencies offer the potential for enormous capacity wireless links. However, designing robust communication systems at these frequencies requires that we understand the channel dynamics over both time and space: mmWave ...

Cancer cell death induced by the NAD antimetabolite Vacor discloses the antitumor potential of SARM1

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Vacor, a compound converted into the toxic metabolite Vacor adenine dinucleotide (VAD) by the nicotinamide salvage pathway enzymes NAMPT and NMNAT2, exhibits antitumor activity by inducing rapid and complete NAD depletion. We report that Vacor toxicity is limited to cell lines expressing high levels of SARM1, a NAD glycohydrolase.

A novel model fitted to multiple life stages of malaria for assessing efficacy of transmission-blocking interventions

open access: yesMalaria Journal, 2017
Background Transmission-blocking interventions (TBIs) aim to eliminate malaria by reducing transmission of the parasite between the host and the invertebrate vector.

Emergent Pauli Blocking in a Weakly Interacting Bose Gas

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2022
The relationship between many-body interactions and dimensionality is integral to numerous emergent quantum phenomena. A striking example is the Bose gas, which upon confinement to one dimension (1D) obeys an infinite set of conservation laws ...

Move-stop-move Target Tracking with Low-altitude Surveillance Radars

open access: yesLeida xuebao, 2022
Low-altitude small targets, represented by rotor unmanned aerial vehicles, always adopt slow move-and-stop strategy or employ an obstacle blocking strategy to avoid radar detection and conduct point-and-point strikes or interference on important ...

Lattice path counting and the theory of queues [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this paper we will show how recent advances in the combinatorics of lattice paths can be applied to solve interesting and nontrivial problems in the theory of queues.
