TMEM55B links autophagy flux, lysosomal repair, and TFE3 activation in response to oxidative stress

open access: yesNature Communications
Lysosomes have emerged as critical regulators of cellular homeostasis. Here we show that the lysosomal protein TMEM55B contributes to restore cellular homeostasis in response to oxidative stress by three different mechanisms: (1) TMEM55B mediates NEDD4 ...

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

The anti-SLAMF7 antibody elotuzumab mediates NK cell activation through both CD16-dependent and –independent mechanisms

open access: yesOncoImmunology, 2017
Elotuzumab is a humanized therapeutic monoclonal antibody directed to the surface glycoprotein SLAMF7 (CS1, CRACC, CD319), which is highly expressed on multiple myeloma (MM) tumor cells.

Integrating the inputs that shape pancreatic islet hormone release. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The pancreatic islet is a complex mini organ composed of a variety of endocrine cells and their support cells, which together tightly control blood glucose homeostasis.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Efficacy and safety of mitoxantrone hydrochloride liposome-containing regimens in treating refractory/relapsed acute myeloid leukemia

open access: yesDiscover Oncology
Background Despite the poor prognosis for patients with relapsed/refractory (R/R) acute myeloid leukemia (AML), an optimal treatment strategy remains undefined. Mitoxantrone (MIT) is widely used to treat R/R AML.

Red blood cell morphology [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Laboratory Hematology, 2013
SummaryThe foundation of laboratory hematologic diagnosis is the complete blood count and review of the peripheral smear. In patients with anemia, the peripheral smear permits interpretation of diagnostically significant red blood cell (RBC) findings. These include assessment of RBC shape, size, color, inclusions, and arrangement.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
