The effects of leukodepletion on the generation and removal of microvesicles and prion protein in blood components

Transfusion, 2006
BACKGROUND:  Universal leukodepletion (LD) has been implemented in the United Kingdom to reduce the risk of transfusion‐transmitted variant Creutzfeldt‐Jakob disease. If LD causes microvesiculation of blood cells, however, potentially infectious membrane‐associated prion could reach the final products.STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS:  We have measured ...

Assessment of removal of human cytomegalovirus from blood components by leukocyte depletion filters using real-time quantitative PCR

Blood, 2004
Abstract To assess removal of cytomegalovirus (CMV) by leukocyte depletion (LD) filters, we developed a spiking model of latent virus using peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) infected by coculture with CMV-infected human fibroblasts.

The Role of Blood Component Removal in Essential and Reactive Thrombocytosis

Therapeutic Apheresis, 2002
Abstract: An elevated platelet count is now a common finding in both hospitalized and ambulatory patients with the advent of automated complete blood cell counters. Clinicians may be called upon to make a distinction between a reactive process and a primary hematologic disorder as the cause of a thrombocytosis and to determine whether treatment is ...

Selection of component drug in activating blood flow and removing blood stasis of Chinese herbal medicinal formula for dairy cow mastitis by hemorheological method

Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2008
In order to select the component drug in promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis of Chinese herbal medicinal formula for dairy cow mastitis.25 healthy rabbits were allocated randomly into five equal groups. The rabbits in four experimental groups were administered with decoctions of giant knotweed rhizome (GKR, rhizoma polygoni cuspidati),

Selective removal of human serum amyloid P component from rat blood by use of an immunoaffinity membrane in an extracorporeal circulation system

Journal of Chromatography B: Biomedical Sciences and Applications, 1996
We examined the suitability of an immunoaffinity membrane (IAM) bearing specific antibody as a ligand for removing human serum amyloid P component (hSAP) from blood passed through a simple extracorporeal circulation system established in rats. The specific antibody was the most effective of the various ligands tested for removing hSAP from human blood.

Prevention of primary transfusion‐associated cytomegalovirus infection in bone marrow transplant recipients by the removal of white cells from blood components with high‐affinity filters

British Journal of Haematology, 1994
Summary. A prospective study was carried out to determine whether use of cytomegalovirus (CMV) unscreened red blood cells and platelet concentrates, white blood cell (WBC) depleted with high‐efficiency filters, would prevent transfusion‐associated (TA) CMV infection in CMV seronegative bone marrow transplant recipients.

[Component removal from whole blood by means of gravity sedimentation].

Beitrage zur Infusionstherapie und Transfusionsmedizin = Contributions to infusion therapy and transfusion medicine, 1998
Our aim was to establish a new method for the separation of long-term storable blood components (red blood cells in additive solution and frozen plasma) from whole blood by a gravity sedimentation technique with hydroxyethyl starch. This investigation should offer a cheap and technically simple method of blood separation as an alternative to whole ...

The source and removal of microaggregates in aged human blood and human blood components.

Surgery, gynecology & obstetrics, 1975
Microaggregates are formed during the storage of human blood and are composed largely of platelets and leukocytes. These microparticles reside in the buffy coat fraction of blood. The formation of microaggregates can be successfully prevented by removal of the buffy coat or by treatment of blood with drugs which inhibit platelet function prior to ...

Methods for selective blood component removal.

Clinical nephrology, 1987
The objective of therapeutic Extra Corporeal Blood Treatment (ECBT) is the removal or conversion of unwanted (mostly pathogenic) substances present in blood. At present ECBT is generally performed by using physical techniques such as dialysis, membrane filtration and centrifugation.

[Study on absorbed components of Aconitum kusnezoffii under Yunnan Baiyao compatibility in effect of activating blood circulation and removing blood stasis].

Zhongguo Zhong yao za zhi = Zhongguo zhongyao zazhi = China journal of Chinese materia medica, 2019
Rat model of blood stasis syndrome was prepared by subcutaneous injecting of epinephrine hydrochlorid, then the model rats were administrated by Yunnan Baiyao for 15 days. Blood rheology, coagulation function and histopathology were chosen as indicators to evaluate the successful replication of blood stasis syndrome model and the treatment effect of ...
