Red Blood Cell‐Induced Bacterial Margination Improves Microbial Hemoadsorption on Engineered Cell‐Depleted Thrombi, Restoring Severe Bacteremia in Rats

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A highly efficient extracorporeal device for treating bacteremia is developed by integrating microfluidic bacterial margination and engineered cell‐depleted thrombi strategically constructed in the device. The rodent models, severely infected with antibiotic‐resistant bacteria, recover from bacteremia after two subsequent extracorporeal blood ...

Large‐Scale Production of Transfusion‐Ready Red Blood Cells From Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A scalable, dynamic culture system is developed to produce red blood cells from induced pluripotent stem cells. It achieves high yields with up to 70% enucleation, not previously shown in dynamic systems, overcoming key limitations and enabling large‐scale production.

Inhibition of AMPKα Pathway by Podocyte GOLM1 Exacerbates Diabetic Nephrology in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Podocyte Golgi membrane protein 1 interacts with epidermal growth factor receptor to inhibit peroxisome proliferator activated receptor γ, and then inactivates adenosine monophosphate activated protein kinase α pathway, which facilitates diabetes‐related inflammation, oxidative damage, apoptosis, and renal dysfunction.

Rational Clinical Use of Blood and Blood products – A summary

open access: yesJournal of Pathology of Nepal, 2017
Blood transfusion is an essential therapeutic intervention. The main role of the blood centre is to provide safe and timely blood and blood component(s) to the patients that will improve the physiological status of the patient.

Whole blood as an alternative for component transfusion? [PDF]

open access: yesISBT Science Series, 2013
Blood services commonly separate whole blood (WB) into its components of red cells, platelets and plasma. This enables storage of the components under conditions that optimise their quality for as long as possible, and enables transfusion of only the required components to each recipient.

Atrial Fibroblasts‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles Exacerbate Atrial Arrhythmogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Exosome miR‐224‐5p derived from angiotensin II‐treated atrial fibroblasts creates a substrate for AF by promoting atrial electrical remodeling. Increased exosome miR‐224‐5p enhances AF susceptibility by inhibiting CACNA1c expression and decreasing ICa current of atrial cardiomyocytes.

Rotational thormboelastolmetry guided transfusion practice in living donor liver transplantation, A retrospective comparative study

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Anaesthesia, 2018
Introduction: Living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) is a complex surgery with high risk for massive bleeding and blood component transfusion. This retrospective study investigated the effect of adopting ROTEM based transfusion algorithm on blood ...

Multifunctional NIR‐Triggered Nanozyme‐Based Microneedles for Synergistic Eradication of MRSA and Enhanced Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The novel microneedle patches (MN@CTB) are fabricated by integrating CTB nanozymes into HAMA and PVA solution based on a photo‐crosslinking reaction. The MN@CTB microneedle patches present an excellent photothermal effect and NIR‐stimulated release of NO, which is advantageous for the elimination of MRS.

Evaluation of blood requisition and utilization practices at a tertiary care hospital blood bank in Islamabad, Pakistan

open access: yesGlobal Journal of Transfusion Medicine, 2017
Introduction: The significance of appropriate completion of blood request forms (BRFs) is frequently underrated by the clinicians which results in wastage and increased risk of inappropriate therapy. The judicious use of blood components can be assessed
