Prevalence of Red Blood Cell Major Blood Group Antigens and Phenotypes among Omani Blood Donors

open access: yesOman Medical Journal, 2019
Objectives: Most literature on the frequencies of red blood cell (RBC) phenotypes are published in Europeans and Africans countries, with the frequencies in the Omani population unknown. We sought to determine the prevalence of RBC blood group phenotypes

Rancang Bangun Aplikasi Donor Darah Berbasis Mobile di PMI Kabupaten Bandung [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Blood donation is a voluntary process of giving blood for purposes of blood transfusion for others in need. Based on data from PMI in 2013 we still lack 600,000 liters of blood stocks.

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Effectiveness of blood donor questionnaire directed at risk factor for transfusion transmitted infections in Pakistani population

open access: yesAsian Journal of Transfusion Science, 2012
Background: Deferring blood donors who admit to high-risk behavior on questioning are likely to eliminate those in window period for transfusion transmitted infections (TTI).

Impact of Deferral for Low Hemoglobin on Donor Return [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Introduction. A consistent blood supply to support life-saving transfusions relies on regular and repeat volunteer blood donations. In this study, we focused on donors previously deferred for low-hemoglobin (Hb) levels to better understand the value of ...

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

Augmentation of chimerism in whole organ recipients by simultaneous infusion of donor bone marrow cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
We had previously demonstrated the persistence of donor leukocytes in the peripheral blood and tissues of long-surviving kidneyl and live2-4 recipients who had stable graft function many years after transplantation.1-6 Donor cell chimerism has since been

Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

Effect of a reduction in glomerular filtration rate after nephrectomy on arterial stiffness and central hemodynamics: rationale and design of the EARNEST study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: There is strong evidence of an association between chronic kidney disease (CKD) and cardiovascular disease. To date, however, proof that a reduction in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is a causative factor in cardiovascular disease is ...
