In the commentary, "Pulsatility Index, Patent Ductus Arteriosus, and Brain Damage," It was stated that we have shown that "blood flow" to the brain was not reduced in premature lambs with left-right ductal shunting. The abstracted data referred primarily to alteration of the percent distribution of blood flow and not to changes of absolute blood flow ...

A previous theoretical study on blood flow in capillaries has been extended and improved. The theory neglects the cell membrane's resistance to bending and uses the simplifications of the hydrodynamic theory of lubrication. Cell shape, cell velocity, pressure drop, and flow field are determined from the theory without recourse to empirical parameters.

Cochlear blood flow in the guinea pig was investigated using Tracer Sephadex 15 microspheres labelled with radioactive nuclides. A reference organ technique was used for quantitative measurements of cardiac output and the blood flow in the cochlear soft tissue, CNS and kidney.

Blood Flow in the Microcirculation
, 2017The microcirculation is an extensive network of microvessels that distributes blood flow throughout living tissues. Reynolds numbers are much less than 1, and the equations of Stokes flow apply.

Abstract In this paper the theory of micropolar fluids with stretch is used to analyze blood flow in comparatively small arteries, say 100 μ dia. Physically micropolar fluids with stretch can provide a mathematical model to represent blood with its deformable substructure, since not only the independent rotation of red cells but also the flexibility ...

Traditionally, Doppler ultrasound has been used to estimate blood flow as the mean velocity multiplied by the vessel area, but this is subject to significant errors and may be difficult to perform accurately. Microbubbles, developed as contrast agents for ultrasound, were initially envisaged as useful for increasing the intensity of echoes and thus ...

In summary, the vascular bed of the stomach is an area of great potential importance to both gastric and vascular physiologists. There are available many technics for its investigation. Simultaneous study of both hemodynamic and secretory phenomena can be conducted on the stomach.

Blood Flow and Thrombosis [PDF]
SummaryPlatelet thrombi have been observed at bifurcations, constrictions and stenoses in the arterial tree where flow separation with accompanying vortex formation can occur. Hence, studies of the flow behavior of human blood cells in models of à vessel obstruction and a sudden expansion of a vessel lumen were carried out.

Dynamics of blood flow and oxygenation changes during brain activation: The balloon model
Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, 1998A biomechanical model is presented for the dynamic changes in deoxyhemoglobin content during brain activation. The model incorporates the conflicting effects of dynamic changes in both blood oxygenation and blood volume.
