Aerobic exercise training increases cerebral blood flow in postmenopausal women

open access: yesArtery Research, 2012
Background: Age-related decrease in cerebral blood flow is a risk factor for cognitive decline. Aerobic exercise training improves vascular and cognitive functions.

Impact of Active Recovery and Whole-Body Electromyostimulation on Blood-Flow and Blood Lactate Removal in Healthy People [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
This study aimed to determine whether an active recovery with added whole-body electromyostimulation (WB-EMS) can increase blood flow and lead to blood lactate removal after intense exercise.

Abnormal Cerebrovascular Reactivity in Patients with Parkinson’s Disease

open access: yesParkinson's Disease, 2015
Background. Orthostatic hypotension (OH) is an important nonmotor manifestation of Parkinson’s disease (PD). Changes in cerebrovascular reactivity may contribute to this manifestation and can be monitored using transcranial Doppler. Objective.

The Effects of Involuntary Respiratory Contractions on Cerebral Blood Flow during Maximal Apnoea in Trained Divers. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The effects of involuntary respiratory contractions on the cerebral blood flow response to maximal apnoea is presently unclear. We hypothesised that while respiratory contractions may augment left ventricular stroke volume, cardiac output and ultimately ...

Computational fluid dynamicaccuracy in mimicking changes in blood hemodynamics in patients with acute type IIIb aortic dissection treated with TEVAR [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: We aimed to verify the accuracy of the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) algorithm for blood flow reconstruction for type IIIb aortic dissection (TBAD) before and after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR).

Excess pressure as an analogue of blood flow velocity

open access: yesJournal of Hypertension, 2020
Introduction: Derivation of blood flow velocity from a blood pressure waveform is a novel technique, which could have potential clinical importance. Excess pressure, calculated from the blood pressure waveform via the reservoir-excess pressure model, is purported to be an analogue of blood flow velocity but this has never been ...

Evaluation of arterial digital blood flow using Doppler ultrasonography in healthy dairy cows

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2017
Background Local circulatory disturbances have been implicated in the development of foot disorders in cattle. The goals of this study were to evaluate the suitability of the interdigital artery in the pastern region in both hind limbs using pulsed-wave (

Quantification of leptomeningeal collateral blood flow in hypertensive rats during ischemic stroke

open access: yesJournal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases
Objectives: There is increasing evidence that poor leptomeningeal collateral blood flow in hypertensive animals is due to increased vascular myogenic tone, indicating that therapies to enhance collateral blood flow during ischemic stroke may be ...

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Preoperative Femoral Vein Velocity in Maximal Flexion Is a Predictor of Deep Vein Thrombosis in Patients Undergoing Total Hip Arthroplasty

open access: yesActa Clinica Croatica, 2020
The aim of the study was to investigate if preoperative blood flow velocity in femoral vein in different positions of the hip during total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a predictor of postoperative deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
