Donors' blood group declaration before donation can be used as a tool for electronic crossmatching

summary.  Electronic crossmatching (E‐XM) is used to detect ABO incompatibility. In developing countries, as many of the donations are from first‐time donors, it is difficult to guarantee the accuracy of the ABO/Rh label on these units to use them for E‐XM.

Abstract : The A and B erythrocyte antigens retain their reactivity beyond 42 days when stored in ACD-adenine at 4-6C. The Rho antigen is satisfactory for use in crossmatch procedures up to 42 days; however, Rh antigens decline in reactivity on longer storage under these conditions at 4-6C.
