Donors' blood group declaration before donation can be used as a tool for electronic crossmatching

Transfusion Medicine, 2005
summary.  Electronic crossmatching (E‐XM) is used to detect ABO incompatibility. In developing countries, as many of the donations are from first‐time donors, it is difficult to guarantee the accuracy of the ABO/Rh label on these units to use them for E‐XM.

Homograft crossmatching is unnecessary due to the absence of blood group antigens

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2001
Homograft valves are subject to calcification and structural degeneration in the long term. Blood group matching is performed in many centers, and it remains controversial whether immunologic responses associated with potential blood group incompatibility contribute to the degeneration of unmatched homografts.

A New Method For Electronic Crossmatch: ABO /Rh Blood Group Confirmation and Antibody Screening Concomitantly With Serologic Crossmatch

Blood, 2013
Introduction Altough electronic crossmatch (E-XM) is cost effective and reduce laboratory workload, practical difficulties of determining 2 consecutive ABO/Rh in patients, requirement for the verification of the donor ABO group, concerns for errors in patient identification/specimen labeling and lack of ...

Study of Military Blood Banking and Crossmatching Using Blood Group Antigens Stored over Five Months in ACD-Adenine

Military Medicine, 1969
Abstract : The A and B erythrocyte antigens retain their reactivity beyond 42 days when stored in ACD-adenine at 4-6C. The Rho antigen is satisfactory for use in crossmatch procedures up to 42 days; however, Rh antigens decline in reactivity on longer storage under these conditions at 4-6C.

Pretransfusion Blood Group Serology

Transfusion, 1979
The limited value of the antiglobulin phase of the crossmatch when a careful antibody screening is performed was demonstrated by analyzing 73,407 compatibility tests for 23,857 patients. By the blood grouping and screening of these patients, 178 cases were detected with unexpected blood group antibodies that had not been previously observed. Unexpected
