Climate change projections of West Nile virus infections in Europe: implications for blood safety practices

open access: yesEnvironmental Health, 2016
BackgroundWest Nile virus (WNV) is transmitted by mosquitoes in both urban as well as in rural environments and can be pathogenic in birds, horses and humans. Extrinsic factors such as temperature and land use are determinants of WNV outbreaks in Europe,

Effective therapeutic targeting of CTNNB1‐mutant hepatoblastoma with WNTinib

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
WNTinib, a Wnt/CTNNB1 inhibitor, was tested in hepatoblastoma (HB) experimental models. It delayed tumor growth and improved survival in CTNNB1‐mutant in vivo models. In organoids, WNTinib outperformed cisplatin and showed enhanced efficacy in combination therapy, supporting its potential as a targeted treatment for CTNNB1‐mutated HB.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

The Supreme Court As Risk Manager: An Analysis of Skinner [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Examining a recent case in which the U.S. Supreme Court approved the collection of blood and urine samples from railroad employees, the authors conclude that, in attempting to improve railroad safety, both majority and minority opinions reflected undue ...

Platelet Biochemistry and Morphology after Cryopreservation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Platelet cryopreservation has been investigated for several decades as an alternative to room temperature storage of platelet concentrates. The use of dimethylsulfoxide as a cryoprotectant has improved platelet storage and cryopreserved concentrates can ...

The PI3Kδ inhibitor roginolisib (IOA‐244) preserves T‐cell function and activity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Identification of novel PI3K inhibitors with limited immune‐related adverse effects is highly sought after. We found that roginolisib and idelalisib inhibit chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells and Treg suppressive functions to similar extents, but roginolisib affects cytotoxic T‐cell function and promotion of pro‐inflammatory T helper subsets to a

Addition of Sodium Pyruvate to Stored Red Blood Cells Attenuates Liver Injury in a Murine Transfusion Model

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 2016
RBCs undergo numerous changes during storage and stored RBCs may induce adverse effects, ultimately resulting in organ injury in transfusion recipients.

A systematic genotype and subgenotype re-ranking of hepatitis B virus under a novel classification standard

open access: yesHeliyon, 2019
Background and aim: It is commonly noticed that chaotic and inefficient subgenotyping are universally used academically and clinically, a standardized HBV genotype/subgenotype classification criterion is urgently acquired.
