Terahertz Time-Domain Spectroscopy of Blood Serum for Differentiation of Glioblastoma and Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The possibility of the differentiation of glioblastoma from traumatic brain injury through blood serum analysis by terahertz time-domain spectroscopy and machine learning was studied using a small animal model. Samples of a culture medium and a U87 human

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

Serum beta-glucuronidase determination in normal subjects and in neurological and mental patients, a provisional report [PDF]

open access: yes, 1963
Using the method given by GOLDSTEIN (1961)9 for the determination of serum beta-glucuronidase activity, this value was determined in both normal and patients with epilepsy, neuroses, psychoses and multiple sclerosis.

Albumin turbidity reaction of blood serum [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, 1967
Turbidity reaction of blood scrum has been developed. The turbidity is formed by serum albumin and comes about when the serum is diluted with MC!LWAINE phosphate-citrate buffer in the range of pH 3.9—4.4. It is significantly enhanced by warming the solution. The temperature must not exceed the point of coagulation.

Aquaporin‐3 and aquaporin‐5 impact the development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma spheroids

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the role of aquaporin‐3 (AQP3) and aquaporin‐5 (AQP5) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Both proteins are upregulated in PDAC and are associated with tumor progression and metastatic potential. Silencing AQP3 or AQP5 in PDAC spheroids results in decreased diameter, area, and overall growth, underscoring their key ...

Specialties of Blood Serum Structurization Under Some Physiological Conditions [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Stress Physiology & Biochemistry, 2018
Background: it is well-known that physiological stress agents can to produce a significant response of regulatory systems. At the same time, the nature of metabolic shifts in the organism during significant physical exertion and emotional stress has been

COMPARATIVE BACTERICIDAL ACTIVITIES OF BLOOD SERUM AND PLASMA SERUM [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Experimental Medicine, 1960
Rabbit and human plasma can be prepared without resort to anticoagulants by employing low temperatures and non-wetting surfaces. Serum formed after clotting of rabbit plasma devoid of cells and platelets manifests essentially no bactericidal activity on Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus megaterium, and a strain of Staphylococcus aureus.

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.
