Microfluidic Device for Continuous Magnetophoretic Separation of Red Blood Cells [PDF]

open access: yesDans Symposium on Design, Test, Integration and Packaging of MEMS/MOEMS - DTIP 2008, Nice : France (2008), 2008
This paper presents a microfluidic device for magnetophoretic separation red blood cells from blood under contionous flow. The separation method consist of continous flow of a blood sample (diluted in PBS) through a microfluidic channel which presents on the bottom "dots" of feromagnetic layer.

Anatomical Variations Encountered during Adrenal Venous Sampling: A Report of Three Case Series and Review of Literature

open access: yesJournal of the Korean Society of Radiology
Primary aldosteronism is a group of disorders in which the autonomous secretion of aldosterone is associated with hypertension and hypokalemia. It is crucial to determine the laterality of aldosterone hypersecretion because treatment options differ ...

Detection of Streptococcus pneumoniae from culture-negative dried blood spots by real-time PCR in Nigerian children with acute febrile illness

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2018
Objectives Acute febrile illness is a common cause of hospital admission, and its associated infectious causes, of which a key bacterial causative agent is Streptococcus pneumoniae, contribute to substantial morbidity and mortality. We sought to evaluate

Increasing power and robustness in screening trials by testing stored specimens in the control arm [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Background: Screening trials require large sample sizes and long time-horizons to demonstrate mortality reductions. We recently proposed increasing statistical power by testing stored control-arm specimens, called the Intended Effect (IE) design. To evaluate feasibility of the IE design, the US National Cancer Institute (NCI) is collecting blood ...

A study of volatile compounds in the breath of children with type 1 diabetes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
A pilot study of exhaled volatile compounds and their correlation with blood glucose levels in eight children with type 1 diabetes is reported. Five paired blood and breath samples were obtained from each child over a 6 hour period. The blood glucose concentration ranged from 41.4 to 435.6 mg/dL.

A new formulation for the collection and delivery problem of biomedical specimen [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
We study the collection and delivery problem of biomedical specimens (CDSP) with multiple trips, time windows, a homogeneous fleet, and the objective of minimizing total completion time of delivery requests. This is a prominent problem in healthcare logistics, where specimens (blood, plasma, urin etc.) collected from patients in doctor's offices and ...
