The Aging Blood: Cellular Origins, Circulating Drivers, and Therapeutic Potential

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
As a conduit linking all organs, the blood system both reflects and actively drives systemic aging. This review highlights how circulating pro‐aging and antiaging factors and age‐associated hematopoietic stem cell dysfunction contribute to immunosenescence and multi‐organ decline, positioning the hematopoietic system as a target for aging intervention.

Photoacoustic microscopy of blood pulse wave [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Blood pulse wave velocity (PWV) is an important physiological parameter that characterizes vascular stiffness. In this letter, we present electrocardiogram-synchronized, photoacoustic microscopy for noninvasive quantification of the PWV in the peripheral

Impact of APOE ε4 Genotype Load on Cognitive Function and Lipid Metabolism in Patients With Cerebral Small Vessel Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Apolipoprotein ε4 (APOE ε4) is a potent genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, its role in cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) remains unclear. Given the clinical and pathological similarities between CSVD and AD, this study aimed to investigate the associations of APOE ε4 gene dosage with cognitive function and

Copy Number Variants and Their Association With Intracerebral Hemorrhage Risk: A Case–Control Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Intracerebral Hemorrhage (ICH) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide and lacks effective therapeutic interventions. Despite previous studies, the genetic underpinnings of ICH remain poorly understood. We sought to investigate the role of copy number variants (CNVs) in ICH pathophysiology to identify novel ...

Generalized hybrid coronary revascularization vs. conventional off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting for multivessel coronary artery disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine
BackgroundHybrid coronary revascularization (HCR) has been demonstrated as a safe and effective revascularization strategy in selected patients with multivessel coronary artery disease; however, the inclusion criteria are too strict.ObjectivesThis study ...

Association between circulating full-length angiopoietin-like protein 8 and non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels in Chinese non-diabetic individuals: a cross-sectional study

open access: yesLipids in Health and Disease, 2018
Background Angiopoietin-like protein 8 (ANGPTL8) is a novel hormone involved in the regulation of lipid metabolism and glucose homeostasis. There are inconsistent results regarding the association between ANGPTL8 and lipids in humans.

Portable Low‐Field Magnetic Resonance Imaging in People With Human Immunodeficiency Virus

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The aging population of people with HIV (PWH) raises heightened concerns regarding accelerated aging and dementia. Portable, low‐field MRI (LF‐MRI) is an innovative technology that could enhance access and facilitate routine monitoring of PWH.

Flow dynamics control the effect of sphingosine-1-phosphate on endothelial permeability in a microfluidic vessel bifurcation model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Blood vessels are lined by endothelial cells that form a semipermeable barrier to restrict fluid flow across the vessel wall. The endothelial barrier is known to respond to various molecular mechanisms, but the effects of mechanical signals that arise ...

Basilar Artery Occlusion Stroke Managed With Tenecteplase Versus Alteplase Before Endovascular Treatment (BAO‐TNK)

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To compare the effectiveness and safety of tenecteplase (TNK) versus alteplase (TPA) in patients with basilar artery occlusion prior to endovascular treatment (EVT). Methods In this retrospective multicenter study (BAO‐TNK), we analyzed consecutive BAO patients from 14 U.S.

Reconstruction of a lncRNA-Associated ceRNA Network in Endothelial Cells under Circumferential Stress

open access: yesCardiology Research and Practice, 2020
Background. Numerous studies have highlighted that long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) can indirectly regulate the expression of mRNAs by binding to microRNA (miRNA). LncRNA-associated ceRNA networks play a vital role in the initiation and progression of several
