Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Blood Volume [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
the principle underlying the methodology of blood volume determination involves the determination of degree of dilution of an injected dye by comparing the concentration of the injected dye and the concentration of the dye in the blood after a ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Mechanisms underlying the volume regulation of interstitial fluid by capillaries: a simulation study

open access: yesIntegrative Medicine Research, 2016
Background: Control of the extracellular fluid volume is one of the most indispensable issues for homeostasis of the internal milieu. However, complex interdependence of the pressures involved in determination of fluid exchange makes it difficult to ...

Determination of blood volume by pulse CO-oximetry [PDF]

open access: yesPhysiological Measurement, 2011
The objective of this study was to determine whether changes in carboxyhaemoglobin (COHb) saturation following carbon monoxide (CO) rebreathing can be accurately detected by pulse CO-oximetry in order to determine blood volume. Noninvasive measurements of carboxyhaemoglobin saturation (SpCO) were continuously monitored by pulse CO-oximetry before ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Fluorescence Exclusion: A Simple Method to Assess Projected Surface, Volume and Morphology of Red Blood Cells Stored in Blood Bank

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2018
Red blood cells (RBC) ability to circulate is closely related to their surface area-to-volume ratio. A decrease in this ratio induces a decrease in RBC deformability that can lead to their retention and elimination in the spleen.

Insights into diastolic function analyses using cardiac magnetic resonance imaging: impact of trabeculae and papillary muscles

open access: yesInsights into Imaging, 2021
Background This cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) study investigates the impact of trabeculae and papillary muscles (TPM) on diastolic function parameters by differentiation of the time-volume curve.

Theoretical investigation of measuring cerebral blood flow in the adult human head using bolus indocyanine green injection and near-infrared spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
To investigate the accuracy of measuring cerebral blood flow (CBF) using a bolus injection of indocyanine green (ICG) detected by near infrared spectroscopy in adult human heads, simulations were performed using a two layered model, representing the ...
