Bloom's Syndrome

BLOOM has described a rare syndrome characterized by congenital telangiectatic erythema, sun sensitivity, and stunted growth. 1,2 Additional features, reported in some cases, have included a familial incidence, chromosomal breakage, immunoglobulin deficiency, and the development of neoplasia. 2-7 A girl, previously unreported, is described here.

This chapter proposes that the character Don Ecuménico in Leopoldo Marechal’s Adán Buenosayres (1948)—the first Ulyssean novel to be written in Spanish—is a composite construction inspired by both Leopold Bloom and the real-life Argentine José Salas Subirat, the first Spanish-language translator of Ulysses.
