Effect of film hole geometry and blowing ratio on film cooling performance
Applied Thermal Engineering, 2020Abstract In this paper, four kinds of film holes (cylindrical hole, fan-shaped hole, anti-vortex hole and sister hole) are experimentally and numerically studied to investigate the effect of hole geometry and blowing ratio on film cooling performance and flow structure.

Effects of Blowing Ratio on Multiple Shallow Angle Film Cooling Holes
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012This paper presents the investigation on the effects of the blowing ratio of multiple shallow angle film cooling holes. Multiple film cooling holes having a shallow hole angle (θ = 20°), arranged to perform in-line hole configuration has been considered in the present study.

Aerodynamics of Low-Blowing-Ratio Fuselage Injection into a Supersonic Freestream
Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets, 2005A parametric characterization of the surface flow structure and associated aerodynamic loading for injection into a Mach 3.0 freestream through jets mounted into the side of missile fuselage (sharp-coned cylinder) was experimentally achieved. The experimental methods included surface oil flow visualization, shadowgraph photography, and pressure ...

Film Cooling Jet Under Varying Blowing Ratio
Proceedings of Global Power & Propulsion SocietyThe blowing ratio (M) determines the coverage and extent of attachement/detachment of a film cooling jet over and to a downstream flat endwall (or turbine blade surface). However, insight into their alteration due to the blowing ratio has been largely inconclusive. Therefore, we aim to elucidate its role.

Influence of Blowing Ratio on the Double-Jet Ejection of Cooling Air
Volume 4: Turbo Expo 2007, Parts A and B, 2007Further improvement of the thermal efficiency of modern gas turbines can be achieved by a further reduction of the cooling air amount. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the cooling effectiveness so that the available cooling air fulfils the cooling task even if the amount has been reduced. In particular, the cooling effort for the vanes and blades

Optimization of the blowing ratio for film cooling on a flat plate
International Journal of Numerical Methods for Heat & Fluid Flow, 2017Purpose The purpose of this paper is to report the result of a numerical investigation of film cooling performance on a flat plate for finding optimum blowing ratios. Design/methodology/approach Steady-state simulations have been performed, and the flow has been considered incompressible. Calculations have been performed with 3D finite-volume method

Sweeping Jet Film Cooling at High Blowing Ratio on a Turbine Vane
Volume 5B: Heat Transfer, 2019Abstract Experimental and numerical investigations were conducted to study the effects of high blowing ratios and high freestream turbulence on sweeping jet film cooling. Experiments were conducted on a nozzle guide vane suction surface in a low-speed linear cascade.

Film cooling in the trailing edge cutback with different land shapes and blowing ratios
International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer, 2021Abstract The cutback was widely used in advanced gas turbines to protect the trailing edge. The land was a main structure in the cutback region. Therefore, the present study describes a numerical investigation on the film cooling performance in the cutback region with various land shapes (straight- expanding land, arch- expanding land, contracting ...

An experimental investigation of the flowfields created by injecting normal to a blended missile fuselage at low blowing ratios into a Mach 3.0 (Re/m = 5.5xl0) freestream was performed. These experiments were performed to document the flow dynamics at low blowing ratios with the goal of understanding observed force reversal created by the jet ...

Turbine Blade Tip Film-Cooling and Heat Transfer Measurements at High Blowing Ratios
Volume 5B: Heat Transfer, 2014Film-cooling and heat transfer characteristics of a gas turbine blade tip with a suction side rail was investigated in a stationary 3-blade rectilinear cascade. Mounted at the end of a blow-down facility the cascade operated at inlet and exit Mach numbers of 0.29 and 0.75, respectively.
