The Use of Metallocene Catalysed Polyethylene as a Blend Material in Blown Film Extrusion

Developments in Chemical Engineering and Mineral Processing, 1999
AbstractMetallocene catalysed polyethylenes are the latest addition to the polyethylene family and are reported to have superior mechanical properties over conventional polyethylenes. This paper sought to investigate the effect of blending these materials with conventional low density polyethylene for use in thin films, suitable as packaging materials ...

Prediction and experimental verification of bubble and processing characteristics in blown‐film extrusion

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2008
AbstractBlown‐film modeling is useful to the flexible packaging industry for predicting process and bubble characteristics, such as freeze line height (FLH), bubble diameter, and film thickness. The use of a suitable rheological equation to describe material properties is critical in simulating the blown‐film process.

Blown film extrusion: experimental, modelling and numerical study

2011
This thesis correlates rheological data into a non-linear blown film model that describes the stress and cooling-induced morphological transformations in the axial and flow profiles of the blown films. This will help to improve the physical and mechanical properties of the films in a cost effective way, which will in turn be of great benefit to the ...

Studies on blown film extrusion. I. Experimental determination of elongational viscosity

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1975
AbstractBlown‐film extrusion experiments were carried out to investigate the elongational flow behavior of viscoelastic polymer melts at different melt temperatures. Materials chosen for study were high‐density polyethylene, lowdensity polyethylene, and polypropylene.

The influence of “two-phase” synthesis conditions on blown film extrusion of LDPE

European Polymer Journal, 1979
Abstract LDPE synthesized under two-phase conditions is known to have a good balance of blown film properties. Good optical properties and high impact strength are characteristic for two-phase LDPE grades. In order to obtain systematic information, LDPE was synthesized at several different pressures with two different melt index levels.

Numerical optimization of a multi-jet cooling system for the blown film extrusion

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2015
The limiting factor for every extrusion process is the cooling. For the blown film process, this task is usually done by means of a single or dual lip air ring. Prior work has shown that two major effects are responsible for a bad heat transfer. The first one is the interaction between the jet and the ambient air. It reduces the velocity of the jet and
