Two-dimensional nanofluidics for blue energy harvesting

open access: yes, 2022
Blue energy harvesting based on the ion flow obtained from seas and rivers provides a clean, stable and continuous electric output that is highly dependent on ion-selective membranes (ISMs) that conduct single ions.

Comparison of Physicochemical Properties of Two Types of Polyepichlorohydrin-Based Anion Exchange Membranes for Reverse Electrodialysis

open access: yesMembranes, 2022
The development of the most effective, suitable and economic ion-exchange membranes is crucial for reverse electrodialysis (RED)—the most widely studied process to harvest salinity gradient energy from mixing seawater and river water.

Harnessing ‘Blue energy’: A Review on Techniques and Preliminary Analysis

open access: yes, 2017
Energy harvesting from the ocean called ‘blue energy’ began in the 1970's and should have reached its peak by today, but due to varying interests in the field and the growing potentials of other sources, its development was delayed. Recently, it receives

Review on reverse electrodialysis process-a pioneering technology for energy generation by salinity gradient

open access: yesFrontiers in Membrane Science and Technology
Blue energy obtained by salinity gradient can be generated by mixing two saline solutions having different salt concentrations. According to researchers working in this area, about 80% of the current global electricity demand could potentially be covered

Concepts and Misconceptions Concerning the Influence of Divalent Ions on the Performance of Reverse Electrodialysis Using Natural Waters

open access: yesMembranes, 2023
Divalent ions have a negative effect on the obtained power and efficiency of the reverse electrodialysis (RED) process when using natural waters. These effects can largely be attributed to the interaction between the various ions and the membranes ...

Blue Energy

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

The applicability of blue energy in Croatia

open access: yes, 2022
Unutar ovog rada definiran je pojam plave energije i plave ekonomije. Što su plava energija i plava ekonomija, kako se razvijaju u svijetu, te ima li Hrvatska financijskih i prirodnih resursa za razvoj i provedbu istih?
