Review on reverse electrodialysis process-a pioneering technology for energy generation by salinity gradient

open access: yesFrontiers in Membrane Science and Technology
Blue energy obtained by salinity gradient can be generated by mixing two saline solutions having different salt concentrations. According to researchers working in this area, about 80% of the current global electricity demand could potentially be covered

Terahertz intersubband absorption in non-polar m-plane AlGaN/GaN quantum wells

open access: yes, 2014
We demonstrate THz intersubband absorption (15.6-26.1 meV) in m-plane AlGaN/GaN quantum wells. We find a trend of decreasing peak energy with increasing quantum well width, in agreement with theoretical expectations.

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.

Custom-Made Ion Exchange Membranes at Laboratory Scale for Reverse Electrodialysis

open access: yesMembranes, 2019
Salinity gradient power is a renewable, non-intermittent, and neutral carbon energy source. Reverse electrodialysis is one of the most efficient and mature techniques that can harvest this energy from natural estuaries produced by the mixture of seawater

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Effect of air depletion in the preferential oxidation reactor and fuel depletion in a proton exchange membrane fuel cell system fueled by natural gas

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
This study estimates the steady-state performance of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) under conditions of air depletion in the preferential oxidation reactor (PrOx) and fuel depletion at the anode, which has not been previously studied ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...
