For 10 days before harvest, supplemental 50 μmol m−2 s−1 blue light (430 nm) was applied in greenhouse conditions in order to evaluate the influences of pre-harvest supplemental blue light on both antioxidants and nutrition of the flower stalk of Chinese

Blue light-emitting diode based on ZnO
A near-band-edge bluish electroluminescence (EL) band centered at around 440 nm was observed from ZnO p-i-n homojunction diodes through a semi-transparent electrode deposited on the p-type ZnO top layer.

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

IntroductionFar-red (FR; 700–800 nm) light and the difference between day and night temperature (DIF) interactively regulate plant morphology and growth. FR light and +DIF synergistically promote stem elongation, often reducing leaf expansion and overall

Light emitting diodes (LEDs) are widely used to provide illumination due to their low energy requirements and high brightness. However, the LED spectrum contains an intense blue light component which is phototoxic to the retina.

The LED Paradox: How Light Pollution Challenges Experts to Reconsider Sustainable Lighting [PDF]
In the 21st century, the notion of “sustainable lighting” is closely associated with LED technology. In the past ten years, municipalities and private light users worldwide have installed light-emitting diodes in urban spaces and public streets to save ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Transduction of Blue-Light Signals [PDF]
BUT IS IT AN ELEPHANT? In the old tale, several blind men are taken to an elephant. In turn, each is asked to examine and identify the mystery object. One blind man examines a leg and claims it to be a tree, another, examining the trunk, claims it to be a snake, and yet another, feeling a tusk, claims it to be a smooth rock. The pattern continues: each

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Blue-light induced infrared absorption in KNbO3 [PDF]
We have used a high-finesse cavity to measure the cw intensity dependence and dynamics of blue-light-induced infrared absorption (BLIIRA) in KNbO3 crystals for blue-light intensities between 7 x 10^-4 and 2 x 10^4 W/cm^2.
