Vibrio azureus emits blue-shifted light via an accessory blue fluorescent protein [PDF]
Luminous marine bacteria usually emit bluish-green light with a peak emission wavelength (λ(max) ) at about 490 nm. Some species belonging to the genus Photobacterium are exceptions, producing an accessory blue fluorescent protein (lumazine protein: LumP) that causes a blue shift, from λ(max) ≈ 490 to λ(max) ≈ 476 nm.

Terahertz intersubband absorption in non-polar m-plane AlGaN/GaN quantum wells
We demonstrate THz intersubband absorption (15.6-26.1 meV) in m-plane AlGaN/GaN quantum wells. We find a trend of decreasing peak energy with increasing quantum well width, in agreement with theoretical expectations.

Electromechanical wavelength tuning of double-membrane photonic crystal cavities [PDF]
We present a method for tuning the resonant wavelength of photonic crystal cavities (PCCs) around 1.55 um. Large tuning of the PCC mode is enabled by electromechanically controlling the separation between two parallel InGaAsP membranes.
