Trait‐based restoration in African dryland restoration projects: overcoming systemic and scientific barriers for a viable future

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction African dryland restoration continues to show low success rates despite major pledges, due to persistent water scarcity, ecological complexity, and limited use of trait‐based restoration (TBR). Functional trait‐based approaches, which match species selection to adaptive traits, could strengthen ecosystem recovery under arid ...

Play in Cognitive Development: From Rational Constructivism to Predictive Processing

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView.
Abstract It is widely believed that play and curiosity are key ingredients as children develop models of the world. There is also an emerging consensus that children are Bayesian learners who combine their structured prior beliefs with estimations of the likelihood of new evidence to infer the most probable model of the world.

Complex optical constants of CsPbCl3 perovskite thin films determined by spectroscopic ellipsometry

open access: yesAPL Energy
Designing optoelectronic devices based on cesium lead chloride (CsPbCl3) perovskites requires accurate values of their optical constants. Unfortunately, experimental data for this material are limited thus far. Here, we applied spectroscopic ellipsometry

Development of a Finishing Process for Imbuing Flame Retardancy into Materials Using Biohybrid Anchor Peptides

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Flame retardants are commonly used to reduce fire risk in various products and environments, including textiles. While many of these additives contain harmful substances, efforts are underway to reduce their usage. Current research aims to minimize flame-

Blumenthal's Theorem for Laurent Orthogonal Polynomials

open access: yesJournal of Approximation Theory, 2002
The authors study polynomials which satisfy a three-term recurrence relation \(B_n(x)=(x-\beta_n)B_{n-1}(x)-\alpha_n xB_{n-2}(x)\) with positive coefficients \(\alpha_{n+1}, \beta_n\) and show that their zeros are eigenvalues of structured Hessenberg matrices. The case when \(\alpha_n \to\alpha\) and \(\beta_n \to\beta\) is analysed in more detail. Now

Traits and functions of alpine plant communities respond strongly but not always sufficiently to in situ climate change

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 3, Page 1173-1187, February 2026.
Summary Increasing climate warming and summer droughts are known to affect mountain plant communities, their functional traits and life strategies. However, little is known about how strongly and efficiently communities respond to climate change, and how tightly plant responses are linked to responses of ecosystem functions.

How default choice architecture impacts downstream behavior: A taxonomy, theoretical framework, and research agenda

open access: yesConsumer Psychology Review, Volume 9, Issue 1, Page 31-50, January 2026.
Abstract Much is known about the immediate effects of default choice architecture and their underlying psychological processes. Yet, significant gaps remain in understanding if, when, and how defaults produce downstream effects on consumer behavior. We resolve conceptual ambiguity around downstream default effects by developing a taxonomy to categorize
