Morphometric and Paleobiological Insights Into Pleistocene Sicilian Wolf Populations

open access: yesActa Zoologica, Volume 107, Issue 4, Page 409-431, October 2026.
ABSTRACT The Pleistocene wolves (Canis lupus) from Sicily represent one of the few known insular populations of this species from that time period. Despite their potential relevance for understanding carnivore adaptations in insular contexts, no dedicated study has previously investigated their morphology and evolutionary significance.

Genotype II Live‐Attenuated ASFV Vaccine Bearing 24 Genes Deletion in 3 Independent Regions Is Able to Provide Complete Protection Against Homologous Lethal Challenge

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 17, 15 September 2026.
African swine fever (ASF) is a highly contagious and lethal viral disease of swine. Therefore, it is urgent to develop a safe and effective vaccine. We constructed a live‐attenuated ASF vaccine bearing 24 gene deletions in 3 independent regions, ASFV‐Δ24.

Mitigating Effects of Nest Structure on Predation Risk in Hainan Partridge (Arborophila ardens)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
Enclosed nest structures can disrupt predator search efficiency and reduce predation risk. Predation rate in the uncovered group was significantly higher than that in the covered group. Our study highlights the functional limitations of nest‐structure evolution within complex predation environments.

Impact of Rainfall on Aquatic and Terrestrial Species Monitoring Using Riverine Environmental DNA

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
Environmental DNA (eDNA) has enabled simultaneous monitoring of aquatic and terrestrial vertebrates, yet the influence of rainfall on detection patterns remains poorly understood. In this study, we sampled river water in the Kiyotake catchment in Japan and compared vertebrate detection patterns under rainfall and non‐rainfall conditions.
