Abstract The clinical and histological features of scrotal haemangiomas in mature boars in Hong Kong and Fiji are described. Nomenclature of the lesions is discussed. Age, altered haemodynamic forces in the capillary bed of the dermis and genetic predisposition are suggested as factors involved in the development of these vascular overgrowths.

Impotence in the boar: angioarchitecture and venous drainage of the penis in normal boars
Veterinary Record, 1981Twenty penis from normal boars were injected with various media at known reservoir pressures and examined by radiography, dissection, maceration, clearing and sectioning. Injections into the corpus spongiosum penis (csp) produced dorsal deviation and clockwise spiral twisting.

Impotence in the boar 2: Clinical and anatomical studies on impotent boars
Veterinary Record, 1982Six boars were deficient in penile erection and incapable of intromission, but produced ejaculates containing spermatozoa. In five of these boars impotence was primary, but one boar had served normally for two seasons before showing secondary impotence. The influence of boar libido on the efficacy of the boar effect
Animal Reproduction Science, 1994Eighty-one Large White/Landrace crossbred gilts were used in three replicates in this study. These gilts were allocated to one of three treatments, these being (1) control—no boar contact, (2) daily exposure to a low-libido boar, and (3) daily exposure to a high-libido boar. All treatments began at a mean gilt age of 160 days and continued for 60 days.

Incidence of boar taint in Swedish Landrace and Yorkshire boars
Livestock Production Science, 1974Abstract Boar taint in 500 Swedish Landrace and Yorkshire boar carcasses was tested by smelling fat samples heated on the tip of a soldering iron at 150°C. About 40% of the boars were scored as non-tainted; in another 40%, the judges were unsure whether taint was present or not. Boar taint was judged present in only 20% of the boars.
