Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Prediction of the relationship between body weight and body condition score in sheep [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
During the whole production cycle it is important to monitor the energy balance and to quantify body reserve changes of the ewes. This can be done, both in experimental settings and in the field, by estimating the body condition score (BCS) of the ewes ...

The steady oblique path of buoyancy-driven disks and spheres [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We consider the steady motion of disks of various thicknesses in a weakly viscous flow, in the case where the angle of incidence $\alpha$ (defined as that between the disk axis and its velocity) is small.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Differences in Stabilometric Parameters During Static-Balance Maintenance in Female Wrestlers of Different Weight Categories

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Background: The aim of the study was to examine the relationship between body weight (weight category groups) and the ability to maintain balance in conditions of restricted field of vision and support area in female wrestlers.

Balance in seniors who exercise, considering different levels of fear of falling

open access: yesActa Scientiarum. Health Sciences, 2017
The aging process brings changes to one’s body balance and may trigger a fear of falling. The aim of this study was to compare and verify correlation between different methods that assess body balance among elderly individuals who exercise, according to ...

Hubungan Paparan Pb dengan Gangguan Keseimbangan Tubuh pada Pekerja Industri Peleburan Timah Hitam di Kebasen Kabupaten Tegal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background : Pb that enters the human body every day will be absorbed, stored and then accumulated in the blood. Health effects of exposure to lead include various influences cognitive function, learning ability, inhibit growth in height (stunting ...

Quantum kinetic Ising models

open access: yes, 2010
We introduce a quantum generalization of classical kinetic Ising models, described by a certain class of quantum many body master equations. Similarly to kinetic Ising models with detailed balance that are equivalent to certain Hamiltonian systems, our ...
