The knee is likely to get hurt due to its excessive weight-bearing, for which it is surrounded by strongly tensioned ligaments, connectives and muscles. These highly active structures are imbedded in fatty tissue. The Fatty and loose connective tissue of the knee recently gained a renaissance in research.

Rats first fed soybean oil and peanut oil diets, then subjected to the process of fat depletion through selective starvation, involving 23 to 27 per cent. loss in body weight, before being fed a "hardening" diet, yielded "harder" fats-fats of lower iodine number values-than the fats of rats which were not starved before being fed the carbohydrate-rich ...

Annual Review of Nutrition, 1988
The genetics of human obesity was reviewed here in terms of studies dealing with body fat and fat distribution. The role of heredity was examined by reviewing genetic disorders in which obesity is a clinical feature. Two kinds of genetic effects were discussed: the additive genetic effect and the genotype-environment interaction effect.

Measurement of Body Fat and Fat Distribution
Journal of Nursing Measurement, 1995Overweight and obesity are increasing in prevalent and thus an important area for intervention and investigation. Researchers and clinicians have a variety of measurement techniques to assess body fatness and regional fat. These techniques are chosen for their accuracy and precision in light of their cost, convenience, and safety.
