Body Composition Profiling in the UK Biobank Imaging Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Objective To investigate the value of imaging-based multivariable body composition profiling by describing its association with coronary heart disease (CHD), type 2 diabetes (T2D), and metabolic health on individual and population levels.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Adipokinetic hormone-induced lipolysis in the fat body of an insect, Manduca sexta: synthesis of sn-1,2-diacylglycerols.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1997
The pathway for the adipokinetic hormone-stimulated synthesis of sn-1,2-diacylglycerols in the adult Manduca sexta fat body was studied. Adult fat body lipids were labeled by feeding 5th instar larvae either with [9,10(n)-3H]oleic acid or [1(3)-3H ...

The relationship between endogenous androgens and body fat distribution in early and late postmenopausal women. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
To investigate the relationship between endogenous androgens and body fat distribution in early and late postmenopausal women. We enrolled postmenopausal women consisting of an early group (≤ 5 years since menopause, n = 105) and a late group (≥ 10 years ...

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

A cross-sectional MR study of body fat volumes and distribution in chronic schizophrenia

open access: yesnpj Schizophrenia, 2022
People with schizophrenia show higher risk for abdominal obesity than the general population, which could contribute to excess mortality. However, it is unclear whether this is driven by alterations in abdominal fat partitioning.

Phenotypic heterogeneity of latent autoimmune diabetes in adults identified by body composition analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: In patients with Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA) a lower body mass index was reported compared with classical type 2 diabetes (T2D), and was found to be associated with a faster progression to insulin-dependence.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Sex differences in the mediation of the MASLD - Depression association by fat distribution in U.S. adults

open access: yesActa Psychologica
Purpose: This study investigates the intricate relationship between metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and depression, emphasizing the mediating role of body fat distribution, particularly in female. Methods: We analyzed the
