Relationships of Organ Weight to Body Weight

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1962
Abstract INTRODUCTION ORGAN WEIGHT and organ growth rate are parameters of primary importance in experimental biology, yet their interpretation is not always simple. Perhaps the most common complication is the need to establish the relationship of organ growth to that of the whole body.

Automatic Identification of Non-Meaningful Body-Movements and What It Reveals About Humans [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
We present a framework to identify whether a public speaker's body movements are meaningful or non-meaningful ("Mannerisms") in the context of their speeches. In a dataset of 84 public speaking videos from 28 individuals, we extract 314 unique body movement patterns (e.g. pacing, gesturing, shifting body weights, etc.).

Nicotine treatment decreases food intake and body weight via a leptin-independent pathway in Psammomys obesus

open access: yes, 2002
It has been reported previously that leptin may be involved in nicotine\u27s ability to reduce body weight. Our aim was to investigate whether the anorexic action of nicotine is related to the actions of leptin by utilizing lean leptin-sensitive and ...

Well‐being on supportive techniques in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: from neurologists' perspective

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, Volume 9, Issue 12, Page 1874-1883, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Objective To investigate intercultural neurologists' perception of well‐being in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) using gastrostomy (PEG), non‐invasive, and/or invasive ventilation (NIV/IV) and to analyse the determinants and impact on the management of the above medical interventions (MIs).

Genetic analyses of metabolic body weight, carcass weight and body conformation traits in Nordic dairy cattle

open access: yesAnimal, 2021
Improving feed efficiency in dairy cattle by animal breeding has started in the Nordic countries. One of the two traits included in the applied Saved feed index is called maintenance and it is based on the breeding values for metabolic BW (MBW). However,

Phenotypic continuum of NFU1‐related disorders

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, Volume 9, Issue 12, Page 2025-2035, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Bi‐allelic variants in Iron–Sulfur Cluster Scaffold (NFU1) have previously been associated with multiple mitochondrial dysfunctions syndrome 1 (MMDS1) characterized by early‐onset rapidly fatal leukoencephalopathy. We report 19 affected individuals from 10 independent families with ultra‐rare bi‐allelic NFU1 missense variants associated with a

Estimating Body Volume and Height Using 3D Data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Accurate body weight estimation is critical in emergency medicine for proper dosing of weight-based medications, yet direct measurement is often impractical in urgent situations. This paper presents a non-invasive method for estimating body weight by calculating total body volume and height using 3D imaging technology.
