Potential of Bovine Herpesvirus Vectors for Recombinant Vaccines [PDF]

open access: yesVaccines
The livestock industry experiences significant economic losses as a result of viral infections. Building on recent advances in biotechnological research, recombinant viral vector vaccines have emerged as promising platforms for next-generation vaccines ...

Prokaryotic expression of a truncated form of bovine herpesvirus 1 glycoprotein E (gE) and its use in an ELISA for gE antibodies [PDF]

open access: yesPesquisa Veterinária Brasileira, 2013
This article describes the expression of a truncated form of bovine herpesvirus 1 (BoHV-1) glycoprotein E (gE) for use as immunodiagnostic reagent. A 651 nucleotide fragment corresponding to the amino-terminal third (217 amino acids) of BoHV-1 gE - that ...

Presença do genoma de BoHV-5 no líquido cefalorraquidiano de bovinos com meningoencefalite herpética [PDF]

open access: goldArquivo Brasileiro de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia, 2016
The diagnosis of bovine herpesvirus 5 (BoHV-5) encephalitis is confirmed after death by laboratory methods applied to brain fragments. Alternative methods to confirm ante-mortem diagnosis are important because the disease is not always lethal. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the presence of the virus genome in the cerebrospinal fluid ...

Comparative study on the in vitro and in vivo properties of two bovine herpesvirus-5 reference strains [PDF]

open access: yesActa Veterinaria Scandinavica, 2011
Background Bovine herpesvirus 5 (BoHV-5) is an alphaherpesvirus responsible for meningoencephalitis in young cattle and it is antigenically and genetically related to bovine herpesvirus 1.

Recombinant BoHV-5 Glycoprotein (rgD5) Elicits Long-Lasting Protective Immunity in Cattle

open access: greenVirology, 2022
BoHV-5 is a worldwide distributed pathogen usually associated with a lethal neurological disease in dairy and beef cattle resulting in important economic losses due to the cattle industry. Using recombinant gD5, we evaluated the long-duration humoral immunity of the recombinant vaccines in a cattle model.

Mapping the sites of latency and reactivation by bovine herpesvirus 5 (BoHV-5) and a thymidine kinase-deleted BoHV-5 in lambs [PDF]

open access: goldPesquisa Veterinária Brasileira, 2013
A thymidine kinase (tk)-deleted bovine herpesvirus 5 (BoHV-5tkΔ) was previously shown to establish latent infection and reactivate - even poorly - in a sheep model (Cadore et al. 2013). As TK-negative alphaherpesviruses are unlike to reactivate in neural tissue, this study investigated the sites of latency and reactivation by this recombinant in lambs.

Pantinin-Derived Peptides against Veterinary Herpesviruses: Activity and Structural Characterization. [PDF]

open access: yesChemMedChem
Pantinin‐1 and pantinin‐2, scorpion venom–derived peptides, show potent antiviral activity against caprine and bovine herpesviruses. Acting via virucidal action and inhibition of viral entry/fusion, they adopt α‐helical structures in membrane‐mimetic environments. These structure–activity insights highlight their potential as therapeutic agents against

Recombinant BoHV-5 Glycoprotein Elicits Long-Lasting Protective Immunity in Cattle

open access: green, 2022
Bovine herpesvirus (BoHV)-5 is a worldwide distributed pathogen usually associated with a lethal neurological disease (meningoencephalitis) in dairy and beef cattle resulting in important economic losses due to the cattle industry. Using recombinant glycoprotein D of BoHV-5 (rgD5), we evaluated the long-duration humoral immunity of the recombinant ...
