Editorial Commentary: Boiling the Boil [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2005
caused by parasitic protozoa of the genus Leishmania. Transmitted to humans by sand flies, the disease is endemic in 88 countries on 4 continents. In the United States, the disease is something of a medical curiosity, although some clinicians may be surprised to read that autochthonous cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis occur in Texas [1], that visceral ...

Analysis of heat transfer mechanism in supercritical fluids from the aspect of pool heating

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2023
For the special phenomena of heat transfer deterioration or enhancement in supercritical fluid heat transfer, existing research still presents inconsistent opinions.

Explosive boiling?

open access: yesPhysics of Fluids, 2013
A liquid drop immersed into a host liquid can be strongly superheated before nucleation of the first vapour bubble occurs. A millimetre-size water drop indeed survives several minutes at T = 170–190◦C at ambient pressure into sunflower or silicon oil. When nucleation eventually occurs, the drop may boil explosively, as shown in Figure 1 with sunflower ...

Effect of Nanoparticle Size and Concentration on Pool Boiling Heat Transfer with TiO2 Nanofluids on Laser-Textured Copper Surfaces

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2022
The enhancement of boiling heat transfer has been extensively shown to be achievable through surface texturing or fluid property modification, yet few studies have investigated the possibility of coupling both enhancement approaches.

Enhancement of spray cooling by modify spray orientation and coolant characteristics

open access: yesInternational Journal of Thermofluids, 2023
In the current work, using upward spray and NaCl added water, the Leidenfrost effect is significantly minimised in an ultrafast regime by cooling on a hot moving plate, and the heat removal enhancement rate is achieved at 2.15 times of water.

Glucosinolates and Polyphenols of Colored Cauliflower as Chemical Discriminants Based on Cooking Procedures

open access: yesFoods, 2022
The impact of mild oven treatments (steaming or sous-vide) and boiling for 10 min, 25 min, or 40 min on health-promoting phytochemicals in orange and violet cauliflower (Brassica oleracea L. var. botrytis) was investigated.

Universality of oscillating boiling in Leidenfrost transition [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. E 96, 043102, 2017, 2017
The Leidenfrost transition leads a boiling system to the boiling crisis, a state in which the liquid loses contact with the heated surface due to excessive vapor generation. Here, using experiments of liquid droplets boiling on a heated surface, we report a new phenomenon, termed oscillating boiling, at the Leidenfrost transition.

The effects of time of day and chronotype on cognitive and physical performance in healthy volunteers

open access: yesSports Medicine - Open, 2018
Background Whether you are a morning lark or a night owl has proven to be a key contributor in the timing of peak athletic performance. Recent evidence suggests that accounting for these differences, known as one’s chronotype, results in significantly ...
