Influence of a Flow Obstacle on Boiling Two-Phase Flow
ASME 2011 Power Conference, Volume 1, 2011The spacer of Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) becomes the flow obstacle. Moreover the clearance between fuel rods of the innovative Water Reactor for Flexible fuel cycle (FLWR) becomes very narrow. Thus understanding of the thermal-fluid characteristics in the boiling channel equipped with the flow obstacle becomes more important. In this study, to clarify

Two Phase Boiling and Flow Instabilities in a Microchannel
ASME 5th International Conference on Nanochannels, Microchannels, and Minichannels, 2007Boiling in microchannels is a very efficient mode of heat transfer. High heat and mass transfer coefficients are achieved. Evaporation of the liquid meniscus is the main contributor to the high heat fluxes achieved due to phase change at thin liquid films in a microchannel. The microscale hydrodynamic motion and the mechanisms at the immediate vicinity

Flow boiling heat transfer and two-phase flow in microgravity
Proceedings of the 15th International Heat Transfer Conference, 2014Flow boiling heat transfer can provide high heat transfer rates due to latent heat transportation. Its possible use is therefore potentially important to reduce size and weight of cooling systems in space platforms and satellites. A comprehensive knowledge is also important for the safe operation of existing single-phase systems in case of accidental ...

Boiling two-phase flow under microgravity
Nuclear Engineering and Design, 1994To study the effects of reduced gravity on the flow regime and the heat transfer characteristics of a boiling two-phase horizontal flow, parabolic flight experiments were performed by using an aircraft. The gravity level during the parabolic flight and the duration time were about −0.01ge ∼ +0.01ge and 20 s, respectively.

Wall function approach for boiling two-phase flows
Nuclear Engineering and Design, 2010Abstract One of the important goals of the NURESIM project is to assess and improve the simulation capability of the three-dimensional two-fluid codes for prediction of local boiling flow processes. The boiling flow is strongly affected by local mechanisms in the turbulent boundary layer near the heated wall. Wall-to-fluid transfer models for boiling

A Stabilized Boiling/Evaporation Two-Phase Flow in Microchannels
ASME 2009 Second International Conference on Micro/Nanoscale Heat and Mass Transfer, Volume 2, 2009The high degree of instability in boiling two-phase flow in parallel microchannels is a widely recognized phenomenon. However, if the maldistribution of flow is eliminated and the generated vapor is discharged smoothly through the careful design of the inlet and outlet plenums, in addition, by using part of each channel as a virtual throttle to depress

Two-phase flow oscillations in microchannel convective boiling
2007 IEEE 20th International Conference on Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS), 2007A thermal microsystem with integrated heaters, pressure and temperature microsensors, has been fabricated to study local temperature and pressure fluctuations occurring in forced convective boiling in microchannels. The observed two-phase flows can be classified into two patterns: oscillating liquid/vapour interface and liquid burst flow; both leading ...
