Simplified Analysis of Native Steroid Esters in Dried Blood Spots by LC-MS3. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Steroidal esters (e.g., testosterone, nandrolone and boldenone esters) belong to the substance class prohibited in professional sport that is particularly frequently abused due to its considerable performance‐enhancing effects. Thus, a high number of adverse analytical findings in doping controls is reported every year.

Detection of Anabolic Androgenic Steroids and Steroid Esters-Comparing Dried Blood Spots Collection Devices and Urine Samples. [PDF]
DBS (Capitainer‐B50 and Tasso‐M20) enabled detection of testosterone esters in all participants, whereas urine testing (T/E) missed cases including potential UGT2B17 del/del carriers and individuals with testosterone prescription. More AAS and steroid‐esters could be detected in Capitainer‐B50 versus Tasso‐M20.

Prevalence of AAS-Positive Samples at Drug Abuse Laboratory Sweden Between 2014 and 2023 and Sub-Study of Dual Use of AAS and Narcotics. [PDF]
Throughout 2014–2023, over 20,000 AAS analyses have been conducted at the drug of abuse laboratory, Karolinska University Hospital. Approximately 20% and 2% of the samples have been positive for AAS, with no trends of increase or decrease. Around 50% of the AAS‐positive samples were also positive for narcotics (year 2022–2023), with gender differences;

Lead Astray? The Hidden Contaminants in Australian Anabolic-Androgenic Steroid Market and Their Potential Health Impact. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Introduction Unregulated anabolic–androgenic steroid (AAS) markets are a global phenomenon with significant variability in product composition and purity. This study aimed to determine the chemical composition of AAS sold in Australia. Methods This study analysed anonymously donated AAS samples.

The Behavioral and Neurochemical Changes Induced by Boldenone and/or Tramadol in Adult Male Rats. [PDF]
AbstractBoldenone and tramadol are abused among large sectors of adolescents. Therefore, the behavioral changes concerned with memory and cognitive functions and neurochemical variations were investigated in the cortex of rats treated with boldenone and/or tramadol. Rats were divided into control and rats treated with boldenone, tramadol, or both drugs.

Detection of doping substances in paired dried blood spots and urine samples collected during doping controls in Danish fitness centers. [PDF]
We developed a feasible, sensitive, and robust method for simultaneous detection of 19 selected prohibited substances from S1 to S5 in dried blood spots (DBS) and compared the detectability of these prohibited substances in paired DBS and urine samples collected during doping controls in Danish fitness centers. Abstract The use of dried blood spot (DBS)

Metabolism of boldenone by primary cultures of bovine hepatocytes
To complete our investigation on the in vitro metabolism of 17b-Boldenone (b-BOLD), the biotransformation of b-BOLD and androsta-l,4-diene-3,17-dione (ADD) was studied . using primary bovine hepatocyte cultures incubated for 3,6 and 24 hours with 100uM of b-BOLD or 100uM of ADD or a combination of both (90 uM b-BOLD + 10 uM ADD).

Investigations in carbon isotope ratios of seized testosterone and boldenone preparations [PDF]
AbstractIn order to detect the misuse of testosterone (T) or boldenone (Bo) in doping control analysis, the confirmation of atypical findings employing the determination of carbon isotope ratios (CIR) is mandatory for issuing adverse analytical findings.

Duration-Dependent Cardiac Effects of Anabolic-Androgenic Steroid Use in Strength-Trained Athletes: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [PDF]
Anabolic‐androgenic steroid use is associated with cardiac structural remodeling and functional impairment in strength‐trained athletes. Longer exposure was significantly associated with greater reductions in LVEF and increases in LVMI and posterior wall thickness, while other echocardiographic abnormalities showed heterogeneous temporal patterns ...
