The Rate of Falls of Meteorites and Bolides
Solar System Research, 2020We perform a statistical analysis of 926 confirmed falls of meteorites that occurred in the period 1860 to 2017. The distribution of meteorites over masses is approximated with a lognormal law. It has been shown that the mean interval between the detections of falls of Chelyabinsk-like meteorites is ~25 years.

On Limb Observations of Bolides
Solar System Research, 2019The LP/OMPS limb sensor of the Suomi satellite detected the atmospheric trace of the Chelyabinsk superbolide with an energy of over 400 kt TNT in 2013. The study of LP/OMPS data shows that it detects several bolides with much less energy each year. The paper considers the cases of observation of three bolides in 2016–2017: on February 6, 2016 (13 kt ...

Bolides in the Earth Atmosphere [PDF]
The incremental influx of cosmic material on the Earth shows few maxima in the depen- dence on the size of falling meteoroids (Ceplecha 1992). The largest one corresponds to the impact of asteroid-sized bodies—about 3 km in size and mass of about 10 14 kg.

IMPACT! - BOLIDES, CRATERS, AND CATASTROPHES [PDF]
It is now universally accepted that the impact of planetesimals, asteroids, and comets has been a fundamental process throughout the Solar System. Catastrophic impact events have been instrumental in developing the early history of the planets and have caused environmental disasters throughout Earth history.

Asteroid 2002NY40 as a source of meteorite-dropping bolides [PDF]
The existence of asteroidal meteoroid streams capable of producing meteorite-dropping bolides has long being invoked, but evidence is scarce. Recent modelling of previously reported associations suggests that the time-scales to keep the orbital ...

Spectroscopy and orbital analysis of bright bolides observed over the Iberian Peninsula from 2010 to 2012 [PDF]
We present the analysis of the atmospheric trajectory and orbital data of four bright bolides observed over Spain, one of which is a potential meteorite dropping event. Their absolute magnitude ranges from −10 to −11.
