We compiled the first checklist of wild bees in Doñana Protected Area, documenting 385 species, including three vulnerable and one endangered species listed in the Red List. Bee species exhibit diverse floral preferences, highlighting the need to incorporate plant–pollinator interactions and the role of plants in conservation and management strategies ...

Field-level clothianidin exposure affects bumblebees but generally not their pathogens
The potential impact of neonicotinoid field exposure on bumblebee microbiota remains unclear. In a landscape—scale study, Wintermantel et al. show that whilst exposure to clothianidin impacts Bombus terrestris performance, it does not affect levels of ...

The abundance and pollen foraging behaviour of bumble bees in relation to population size of whortleberry (Vaccinium uliginosum). [PDF]
Habitat fragmentation can have severe effects on plant pollinator interactions, for example changing the foraging behaviour of pollinators. To date, the impact of plant population size on pollen collection by pollinators has not yet been investigated ...

Urban community gardens showed a high wild bee diversity with 168 recorded species, representing roughly 30% of Germany's wild bees, including threatened species like Osmia mitis and Coelioxys lanceolata. Floral resources, not nesting resources or habitat availability, were the main drivers for wild bee taxonomic and functional diversity.

A larval hunger signal in the bumblebee Bombus terrestris
Larvae of Bombus terrestris, a pollen-storing bumblebee, are dependent on progressive provisioning by workers. We test the hypothesis that larval cuticular chemicals can act as a hunger signal. We first show with a new classical conditioning experiment, using a Y-shaped tube, that workers can be trained to prefer the extracts of normally fed larvae ...

Sweet connections: the role of honeydew in supporting wild Bombus terrestris populations (Hymenoptera, Apidae) – a case study from Türkiye [PDF]
Honeydew is a sugary excretion produced by sap-feeding hemipterans, such as scale insects and aphids. It has been regarded predominantly as a food resource for predators and omnivores insects.
