The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

BORASSUS AETHIOPUM MART OF BENIN USED AS REINFORCEMENT IN CONCRETE: ADHESION CARACTERISATION

open access: yesStructural Mechanics of Engineering Constructions and Buildings, 2017
Researches carried out in Benin allowed the use of Borassus aethiopum mart as reinforcement in concrete. The aim of this study is to examine the bond of the two materials. The results of pull out tests have shown that the bonding strength is around 1 MPa.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Ultimate Capacity of Corroded Statically Indeterminate Reinforced Concrete Members

open access: yesInternational Journal of Concrete Structures and Materials, 2018
The corrosion of steel reinforcement is commonly believed to be the primary cause of structural deterioration of reinforced concrete (RC) structures; as a result of this deterioration, a RC structure can incur a considerable reduction in structural ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

The Fog of War: Large-Scale Smoke Screening Operations of First Canadian Army in Northwest Europe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Smoke screens have been employed in sea and land warfare for many centuries for a variety of purposes. They have been used to conceal troop movements, to deceive the enemy as to combat strengths, point of attack, and preparations for offensive operations.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

The Referrer Matters. Musculoskeletal Surgical Conversion Rates: A Systematic Review With Meta-Analysis

open access: yesHealth Services Insights
Background: Efficient musculoskeletal care is important for health services and society. Surgical conversion rates are a common measure of efficiency, yet normal values and the impact of referrer type are unclear.
