DNA ligase LigE increases bacterial transformation with damaged extracellular DNA

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The DNA ligase LigE from the naturally competent Gram‐negative bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoaea increases transformation with cut extracellular DNA. This process is ATP‐dependent and relies on the catalytic activity of LigE; it also requires that LigE contains an intact periplasmic localisation sequence, indicating that ligE functions in the periplasm ...

Bond behavior of ribbed bars produced in coils

open access: yes, 2012
In recent years codes reduced the lower limit for the relative rib area for the acceptance of reinforcing bars without a validation campaign aimed to justify it.

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Predicting Au-S bond breakage from the swelling behavior of surface tethered polyelectrolytes

open access: yes, 2011
Surface tethered weak polyelectrolyte, carboxylated poly(OEGMA-r-HEMA), was prepared via surface initiated polymerization (SIP) from metal (Au, Pt and Ag) surfaces functionalized with initiators through metal-S bonds.

Bond-slip relationship between deformed rebar and ultra-high-performance concrete with corrosion effect

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials
Knowledge of the nonlinear behavior of new materials, the factors affecting them, and models for the inelastic analysis of structures are important. A factor determining the tensile behavior of reinforced concrete is the rebar-concrete bond.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Investigation on the bond-slip behavior of recycled aggregate concrete-filled steel tube with studs.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
This study investigates the influence of built-in studs on the bond behavior in recycled aggregate concrete-filled steel tube (RACFST) composite structures through push-out experiments.
