The Role of Subordination and Industrial Bond Ratings
The Journal of Finance, 1975IN RECENT YEARS a number of models for predicting corporate bond ratings have been developed [3, 4, 5, 8]. Horrigan [3] and the present authors [4] concluded that the subordinated status of a bond, as represented by a 0-1 dichotomous variable, was the most important variable in their respective models.1 The multiple discriminant model developed earlier

Bond-CDS implied rating systems
Information Sciences, 2022Market-implied ratings gained importance as efficient early warnings of official credit rating migrations. We build a two-dimensional implied rating system based on bonds and CDS spreads, and test its forecast performances on a set of worldwide sovereign issuers. We show that the method efficiently uses the information from both markets, and is able to

The Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, 1969
The question “What's in a bond rating?” has been asked at least since 1909 when such ratings were started in the United States. Informed persons who answer this question typically admit that ratings depend in part on readily available statistics on a firm's operations and financial condition.

THE EFFECT OF BOND RATING AGENCIES ON BOND RATING MODELS
Journal of Financial Research, 1985AbstractThis paper addresses the problem of bond rating discrepancies and their effect on bond rating prediction models. Both Moody's and Standard & Poor's now use modified ratings. Results of this study indicate that the two agencies disagree 58 percent of the time and that Moody's rates bonds significantly lower than S & P.

Corporate Bond Ratings and Default Rates
AIMR Conference Proceedings, 1999The literature on credit-risk modeling reflects some confusion about how credit-risk models relate to traditional bond ratings. An explanation of how Moody's defines categories and develops bond ratings helps clarify how analysts can use ratings as well as models to analyze credit risk. An important aspect is the historical relationship between default

Abstract Everyone has their explanation of interest rates. The efficient market model has at least three forms for predicting next period's interest rate. We use the intuition of a successful threshold model for predicting turning points in the Aaa bond rates to formulate a test of the semistrong form of the efficient markets hypothesis.
