Phospho1 deficiency transiently modifies bone architecture yet produces consistent modification in osteocyte differentiation and vascular porosity with ageing [PDF]
PHOSPHO1 is one of principal proteins involved in initiating bone matrix mineralisation. Recent studies have found that Phospho1 KO mice (Phospho1-R74X) display multiple skeletal abnormalities with spontaneous fractures, bowed long bones, osteomalacia ...

Bone-Marrow Pressure and Bone Strength [PDF]
The pattern of bone-marrow pressure changes differed with the mode of stress application. Intra-medullary pressure remained steady during most of the slow loading. During rapid dynamic loading, however, a slight rise in intra-medullary pressure was observed. Contraction of the femoral muscles also resulted in a greater bone-marrow pressure increase.

Influence of zoledronic acid and low-intensity laser on collagen fibers during the bone repair process [PDF]
Purpose: To evaluate collagen fibers during the bone repair process in critical defects created in the tibias of rats, treated with zoledronic acid (AZ) associated with low-level laser therapy (LLLT).

ABSTRACT Background Oral mucositis is a common and debilitating side effect of childhood cancer and stem cell transplant treatments. It affects the quality of life of children and young people (CYP) and places a strain on services. Photobiomodulation is recommended for oral mucositis prevention in international guidance but is poorly implemented in UK ...

Evolutionary patterns of bone histology and bone compactness in xenarthran mammal long bones. [PDF]
Bone microstructure reflects physiological characteristics and has been shown to contain phylogenetic and ecological signals. Although mammalian long bone histology is receiving increasing attention, systematic examination of the main clades has not yet ...

Monks and Icon Painters from the Spaso-Andronikov Monastery, Moscow [PDF]
In the Monastery of Our Saviour and St. Andronicus in Moscow, skeletal remains of clerics and of (possibly) famous icon painters were discovered. The bones were radiocarbon dated, and concentrations of trace elements in bone tissues were measured.

Whole Bone Mechanics and Bone Quality [PDF]
The skeleton plays a critical structural role in bearing functional loads, and failure to do so results in fracture. As we evaluate new therapeutics and consider treatments to prevent skeletal fractures, understanding the basic mechanics underlying whole bone testing and the key principles and characteristics contributing to the structural strength of ...

Predictive Modelling of Bone Age through Classification and Regression of Bone Shapes [PDF]
Bone age assessment is a task performed daily in hospitals worldwide. This involves a clinician estimating the age of a patient from a radiograph of the non-dominant hand.

Ultrasonic wave propagation through porous ceramics at different angles of propagation [PDF]
The anisotropic pore structure and elasticity of cancellous bone cause wave speeds and attenuation in cancellous bone to vary with angle. Comparisons between predictions of a Biot-Allard model allowing for angle-dependent elasticity and angle-and ...
