Systemic phenomena and bone cement
Irish Journal of Medical Science, 1973Three cases of systemic reaction to bone cement are reported. Two patients had a cardiac arrest immediately after insertion of the cement during total hip replacement. The third patient had bilateral total hip replacement, the second procedure being done six weeks after the first.

Shrinkage stresses in bone cement
Biomaterials, 2003Shrinkage of bone cement is reported primarily as a consequence of polymerisation, however thermal shrinkage also occurs as a result of its exothermic reaction. It is proposed that the latter effect is important, since it occurs late in the curing cycle at a time when the cement has attained its mechanical properties as a solid, and that residual ...

Intracardiac bone cement embolism
Heart, 2010A 78-year-old woman presented with progressive shortness of breath for a couple of months. She underwent percutaneous vertebroplasty using polymethylmethacrylate because of a compression fracture of the T8 vertebral body 6 years ago. Although she had mild …

Thermal Manipulation of Bone Cement
Orthopedics, 2005abstract Many factors affect the rate of polymerization of poly methylmethaery late (PMMA) and, therefore, the working timé of bone cement. Surgeons may control some factors, but not all. A surgeon may change the température of the powder and the monomer, whereas the temperature and relative humidity of the operating room are more difficult ...

THE BONDING OF PROSTHESES TO BONE BY CEMENT
The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 19641. The use of acrylic cement in bonding femoral head prostheses to bone is described. 2. No sign of deterioration of the bond between the cement and bone has been seen in histological preparations up to three and a quarter years after operation, and no harmful effects have been recognised, or suspected, in 455 patients in whom it has been used.

[The influence of bone cement on the bone].
Nihon Seikeigeka Gakkai zasshi, 1983The investigation on the effects of bone cement on bone was undertaken in the present study. The experiments were conducted on the following 4 group of rabbits, A, B, C, and D. In group A the femoral medullary cavity was reamed, leaving the part of the endosteum of the cortex and bone marrow.

[Study on the effect of bone-cement interface with bone cement oscillator].
Zhonghua wai ke za zhi [Chinese journal of surgery], 2009To evaluate the effect on increasing bone cement-bone interface micro-gomphosis intensity with bone cement oscillator. One hundred femoral bones of adult pig were randomly divided into 6 groups: oscillating group (A1) and control group (A2) of anti-tensile force, oscillating group (B1) and control group (B2) of anti-pressure (n = 20 in each group ...
