Matching TGF‐β1 Activation With Stress‐Responsive Charge‐Reversal Hydrogel Microspheres for the Treatment of Osteoarthritis

open access: yesExploration, EarlyView.
Based on the interaction between the weakly cross‐linked disulfide bonds that break under stress and charge‐reversal messenger molecules, we herein achieved nanoparticle charge reversal under stress and constructed a stress‐responsive charge‐reversal hydrogel microsphere system using microfluidic technology.

Molecular Palaeontology Prospects From Exceptionally Preserved Eocene Brackish‐Water Bivalve Batissa sitakaraensis (Venerida: Corbiculidae) From Hokkaido, Japan

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
This study reports the exceptional preservation of the Eocene freshwater bivalve Batissa sitakaraensis from Hokkaido, Japan. Multimodal analyses reveal that both the aragonitic shell mineralogy and the delicate organic periostracum retain their original structural and chemical characteristics after millions of years.

Holistic bone developing microenvironment engineered apoptotic extracellular vesicles recapitulate multidimensional developmental signatures in adult and senile bone repair

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
The developing bone was identified as an M2a‐like macrophage driven immune microenvironment with multidimensional developmental signatures. hME‐ApoEVs were successfully fabricated via stimulating the M2a‐like developing microenvironment in vitro and confirmed its recapitulation of developmental features.

Sel1l preserves condylar cartilage matrix homeostasis by regulating PERK signaling

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
Our study revealed that the expression of Sel1l was downregulated in OA cartilage and that Sel1l deficiency induced cartilage catabolism. Mechanistically, Sel1l depletion aberrantly activated PERK signaling and resulted in ER stress. PERK inhibition rescued the phenotype of Sel1l‐deficient chondrocytes and alleviated TMJOA pathogenesis.

Effects of testosterone and high‐dose anabolic steroids on orthodontic‐induced bone remodeling and root resorption: An animal study

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background This study investigates the impact of disruptions in testosterone levels on bone remodeling, root resorption, and periodontal ligament (PDL) during orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) in a pubertal male rat model. Methods Testosterone deficiency was induced through orchiectomy, and the anabolic‐androgenic steroid (AAS, testosterone ...

Estradiol replacement attenuates alendronate‐associated adverse effects on alveolar bone repair in ovariectomized rats

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Sodium alendronate (ALN) is widely used to treat postmenopausal osteoporosis, but both estrogen deficiency and antiresorptive therapy may impair alveolar bone repair after tooth extraction. A clinically relevant but insufficiently explored scenario involves estrogen‐deficient individuals receiving hormone replacement therapy (HRT ...

Age‐related local versus systemic early phase wound healing dynamics following free gingival graft harvest

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Free palatal gingival grafts (FGG) are commonly harvested during mucogingival procedures. The present study investigates age‐related local and systemic early secondary wound healing outcomes, following FGG harvest in a rat model. Methods A 4.2 mm diameter defect was created in the palate of 24 younger (2 m) and 24 older (6 m) Wistar

Dasatinib and quercetin prevent alveolar bone loss in aged mice

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Recent findings have associated alveolar bone loss (ABL) with the presence of senescent cells. Aging and the accumulation of senescent cells are associated with a pro‐inflammatory environment which may exacerbate tissue damage.
